Real good Southern comfort food in a cool venue. If the weather permits chill outside and soak up the Harlem vibe. Crispy chicken really hit the spot. Roxy behind the bar was a gem. Very solid 9/10.
Marcus Samuelsson hit a grand slam. The ambiance is terrific; like a contemporary speakeasy . The food is even better. Try the mac & greens, crayfish grits , red caesar, and the dirty rice & shrimp !
came to celebrate the other night, and we did. it's all delicious (split the fried bird royale if you can: it's for 3 people), the service is great, and the music 's on point. 10/10 would recommend
Delicious mix of Northern and Southern comfort food served up by Swedish/Ethiopian chef Marcus Samuelsson 's. Helga's spicy meatballs , hot fried chicken and waffles , Harlem Chowder...go there hungry!
We had the cornbread with maple butter which was like dessert , along with the deviled eggs which were delicious, lunch prix fix $30. Fried chicken and shrimp with grits . Delicious! Did not disappoint!
Every single dish was phenomenal. The cold corn chowder was unique and amazing. For dessert , actually preferred the Tiramisu to the Rum Pineapple Upside down cake .
Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. When in doubt, fried chicken (it’s a 1/2 chicken !), Mac & cheese . Roxxy the bartender is amazing, super attentive and friendly !
His menu has Southern comfort food such as biscuits , cornbread and fried chicken , as well as some Scandinavian classics such as Helga’s meatballs , and Gravlax. Read more
#1 all respect to Marcus. Great vibe, ambiance, community #2 food is good, but not lifetime of hype good. My fav was chicken and waffles . But ????, the gold standard for friend chicken is still Popeyes.
How do they make that Yep chicken & waffle so good?!? The chicken is so crispy , tender, juicy, and just a bit spicy with a little sweetness in the waffle to compliment it. Amazing
The food is amazing!! Corn bread hits the spot and the fried chicken ugh to die for! Just keep in mind that it's a long wait but you would be happy you waited :)
To start, try the deviled eggs ...simple and delicious. The lamb rib appetizer is a tasty and spicy way to get the dinner going. And the oxtail pasta only leaves you wanting more. Loved everything.
Start with the corn bread and collard greens for the table. The preserved lemon Aleppo chicken was delicious and a healthy option . Go downstairs to Ginney's Supper Club after for live music & drinks!
Great for private events . They hosted my wife's birthday brunch and it was perfect. They have a great atmosphere, southern cuisine , and friendly staff . The best spot in Harlem. Highly recommended.
During Fall/Winter try their old fashioned spiced Swedish Glögg cocktail/drink (which is basically a warm red wine drink with a conglomerate of spices in it. They have the recipe down to perfection!
One of Harlem's best soul food spots, Red Rooster features a gospel group that performs on the weekends. The Yard Bird is a must have, but don't forget to make a reservation .
Split the fried bird royale, its incredible! Also get the cornbread , sundae , and madame petal cocktail - so good. Obamatini is good but spicy
The Yard Bird was even better than I expected. Delicious greens and the creamiest mashed potatoes I've ever had. The cocktails are strong, try the Brownstoner!
Solid food & drinks (Loved the Fried YardBird ), but this is a must see place for the almost too good to be true vibe & atmosphere. Hang at the bar to really take it in. Totally worth the trip uptown!
Such great energy here. DJ was setting up when we left for the Apollo, but good times were infectious. Or maybe it was the cocktails . I had an Obamatini and Negroni both delicious and packed a punch.
Swedish chef Marcus Samuelsson’s town house in Harlem serves a mix of multi-culti comfort food (fried “yardbird ,” cured meats , and fish tacos ). It's every bit as fun and stylish as the chef himself.
Their corn bread is excellent. Soft, great crust, and a certain rawness about it that brings out the most flavor you could expect. The tomato jam they serve with it is excellent as well .
Start off with a signature cocktail , and then I recommend the crabcakes , fried yard bird , or salmon . The pumpkin cake was soft and decadent. Portions seemed just right, and everything hit the spot.
One of the best restaurants in New York City a must visit, don't forget to try the Helga's Meatballs Atmosphere is amazing and Chef Marcus is quite a gentleman, check out the bar downstairs JAZZ
Everything you want in a night out! Great bartenders , skilled & very engaging. Incredibly talented musicians and an overall fun crowd. Next time I'll be back for dinner !
The gospel brunch is great, although a bit pricey ! The singers are extremely talented (although I was hoping for a longer performance ), and the buffet is incredible and has all the Southern classics .
Located in the heart of Harlem, Red Rooster serves comfort food celebrating the roots of American cuisine and the diverse culinary traditions of the neighborhood . — Mamajo
Marcus Samuelsson 's hotly anticipated Harlem global soul food joint is luring the food lovers and critics from across the city uptown. It's totally worth the trip. [Eater 38 Member] Read more
Believe the hype and make the trek. The corn bread is amazing. As is the dark meat fried chicken plate. Live jazz music and friendly crowd make for a great night out. Can't wait to go back.
It was very tasty and everything was perfectly seasoned-best thing was the mac/greens and brussel sprouts , but it just felt very commercialized + quite pricey !! Go to amy ruths for more authentic vibe
Deviled eggs , fish & (cheese ) grits are great . Yard chicken is still good just not mindblowing like expected. Live music . Full bar . Awesome staff and one of the places with the best hospitality
Thigh and drumstick were huge and delicious. Would go back for those. Mac&greens tasted good but Mac was overcooked so not much texture. Any drink can be made into a mocktail .
Definitely worth a trip. Always have the fried chicken , even if just wings as an appetizer , you will not regret it. All portions are good, so prepare to leave full.
Red rooster has a very friendly staff and a very delightful ambiance. I had the pork and beans with a fried egg and pickled cabbage , it was delicious! They also had a wonderful band playing at 11am!
Dirty Rice and shrimp appetizer is excellent! Drunken noodles with spare Rib and octopus , excellent! Vibrant atmosphere and great service
This place is a scene with eclectic decor and incredible food by famed Chef Samuelsson. Sit at the bar to take in more of the ambiance. Order a side of the Mac & Greens.
What happens when an Ethiopian born, Swedish bred chef tackles Southern comfort food ? it's all good. Never thought grilled Grouper could displace catfish alongside my grits but was I wrong. Must go!
The pre-fixe lunch is a clear winner. Get the radish salad , then follow up with Helga's Meatballs (best cucumbers on the planet). Finish it off with the raspberry tart and get a pic with Marcus S!!!
Bourbon infused cocktails are good. Mac and cheese is intense but delicious. It's a fun spot with a good time vibe. Save room for the sweet potato doughnuts for dessert !
Amazing meal! Ambience is great and the food is too! Had the cornbread , salmon gazpacho , and strawberry shortcake w/ homemade ice-cream. Definitely recommend checking out this jewel in Harlem.
Amazing fried chicken at brunch but super un-amazing weekend reservation policy (they now don’t take brunch reservations ). That’s a little ridiculous and I’ll pass from now on...
Difficult to get a walk in seat on weekends. Highlights of our meal include: fried yardbird and mac n greens. You can also order a side of grits (not on menu)
Cornbread and sweet potato pudding was like having dessert for starters ???? gravy croissant and yardbird were delicious with the fried chicken impressively seasoned different for both
Cauliflower soup , Fried yard bird with Mash potato & greens, Helgas meatballs , Corn bread and sweet potato donuts ! Everything was Delicious!!!
Where do I start? The vibe is electric and warm at the same time. Sunday gospel is soul stirring. And the food is like a hug from the inside.
A bit overpriced for the small portions. The collar green mac and cheese was the best dish we had. The Sunday Gospel Brunch is actually downstairs in Ginny's Supper Club. Upstairs is just live music .
Esquire: You can’t really attempt to “drop in” for a quick snack of yardbird or shrimp & grits , because before long you’re caught up in conversations with neighboring tables...
Like an uptown Pastis, the sprawling space is inviting and buzzy—the place to be, north of 110th Street. Read more
This place rocks. We got the Obama Ribs but next time it will be Jambalaya . Nice wine list very well priced and vibrant bar . A clear destination stop. Stroll over a block or two and we the Apollo.
No reservations on weekends, get in before 11am and avoid a long wait . Sundays feature amazing live music . Get the chicken and waffles , you won't regret it.
Everything is glorious. Be prepared to wait. It is totally worth it for biscuits and bacon and beer. - Jo Trent
Very tasteful Soul Food Restaurant. Family owned. I went on a Sunday so they had a gospel act. The food is amazing as well as the staff!! :) - Jeaux Sanchèz
Fried chicken and eggnog waffles all day long. Great happy hour too! - Courtney R.
Great venue! Friendly staff. Well organized for unfamiliar folks. Reasonable prices!! - Oliver Lewis
Buttermilk fried chicken w/ pancakes on brunch menu was on point. Highly recommended :) - James Boye-Doe
Chicken & waffles = super salty but it comes with foie so it's all good. The maitake dumplings & pork buns = fantastic. Good Ramos Gin Fizz, too. - ECava
