Mercury Lounge

One of my favorite music venues in any of the boroughs. Small audience area keeps concerts intimate . Downside is you need to jump on tickets when bigger names come through, but it is well worth.

Great intimate venue . Bands love playing here, you'll love seeing them here. Just grab your drinks on the way in and stake out your place on the floor. It's going to get crowded .

I've been here a couple of times to see some indie bands. I like the intimacy of the place. You can get a great view no matter where you stand. A good place if you like to experience bands up close.

Very intimate venue and one where many acts get their start. Often 2 shows a night, and the separate rooms make it easy(ish) to get drinks in the outside room and go back and watch inside.

This near-legendary venue has hosted some of the biggest names before they got big: The Strokes, Sam Smith, Leon Bridges . A nice, intimate place to catch incredible music , perhaps the next big thing.

Small venue , Perfect for your favorite “not insanely popular” artists whom are incredible. I’ve seen Charlie Cunningham and Peter Bradley Williams here so far.

One of the better venues in the city . Order a beer (drinks are pricey ) in the back from the girl in the corner by the door, that we you don't miss a single note of the show.

Shows are almost always behind schedule. Do a walk-by of the chalkboard and kill time at a nearby bar until your show starts.

Great venue - really good sound and small enough to see your favs up close. If a band you might like is playing there, grab a ticket it'll be worth it...

This is a great show venue - I went to cover the Latin Alternative Music Conference and it was a great time. Their bartenders were pretty chill and their drinks were delish. Two thumbs up

Some of the best indie bands around come through this place which is great because the sound is great, but it's still a very intimate setting . Don't forget there's a bar in the back too!

There are couches along the side all the way up to the stage. The minibar makes getting a drink very convenient.

Despite being the storefront for a seller of tombstones from 1933 to 1993, this place is always incredibly lively !

This 250-capacity club has played host to many memorable CMJ breakout bands. In 2004, Arcade Fire graced its stage; in 2009, Mumford & Sons took baby steps on their rise with a CMJ appearance here.

Any place that hosts Hip-hop karaoke is an automatic win! This intimate venue is almost always 21+ and also hosts great bands. Grab a drink when you first arrive, as the lines get notoriously long.

Nice little venue. Beers are 8 bucks, but it's a clean place and fun crowd.

As you get off the F train go to the 1st Avenue Exit end of the platform and then exit the station at the Houston and Allen exit - it's a 3min walk along Houston - very easy.

Great venue for live shows. Not too big and not too crowded

Cults say their Mercury Lounge gig was “the scariest show we’ve ever played, we had been a full band for less than a month.” Fun fact: The Strokes & Yeah Yeah Yeahs cut their teeth here too.

Snag a spot on the benches lining the walls, or bop back by the sound booth . Check in, check your email, and pretend your friend is just a block away.

Best small (<300 capacity) venue in the city . If a band's got buzz catch them here, the Merc is the last intimate show they'll do.

Don't stop just inside the door -- everyone does, but it's actually less crowded up front if you can make it through the mob blocking the door.

Sets start late, but if you get there on time, you might find seats at one of the two benches that comprise the entirety of the seating options..

Legendary tickets/door personal Maggie can be mistaken for extremely difficult and rude, but that's just a ruse. She's very nice and capable.

The gateway to fame and fortune. Everyone pays their dues at Merc, but not everyone gets a pass to the next level.

Set times listed are always a dirty , dirty lie. Come 45 minutes later than you're planning on coming.

When the front bar is packed you can order from the tiny bar in the main room. Sometimes it's faster.
