I long for this place all year long from the Bay . The best, the best, the best. How do they make coffee so right, it's like caramel ? Their olives like manna from heaven? The lox fluffy as a cloud?
Sturgeon King ! As seen in "Billions" - iconic setting for power brokers :). Get the open face sturgeon/lox sandwich . Nova Scotia salmon (lox ) is world class
Doughy bagels are outstanding. Bites similar to a pretzel . Make sure you fill that bagel with the best smoked sammy in the city . 16.00 for this bad boy so bring your wallet. Well worth it.
Anthony Bourdain 's regular breakfast order: Nova Scotia Lox and egg scramble . You are missed RIP.
The menu includes a long list of omelettes and egg sandwiches , but you're definitely going to want to try something with smoked fish . A great first order is the eggs with a side of pastrami salmon . Read more
The right thing to do at Barney Greengrass is to order eggs scrambled with onions and sturgeon, which is the house specialty . If you hate white fish , the smoked salmon is also really, really good. Read more
Great experience. Although I‘m not into fish . Fantastic Jewish food, especially the Matzah Ball Soup . I felt better with every spoon.
Check the counter before you order as there is a lot of mouthwatering fish , ham and bread to choose from. High quality food, no chichi. Not a place for fancy cappucino . Go there!
Recommended: scrambled eggs with onions , lox , toasted bagel or bialy. Get some smoked sturgeon or salmon and some chopped liver to takw away.
I feel like I'm cheating on Russ & Daughters but it's uptown so it doesn't count. I don't like sturgeon but the sandwich was amazing. Latkes are the best I can remember. Challah French toast too!
For more than 100 years, Barney Greengrass has been New York's quintessential deli , specializing in homemade smoked sturgeon, nova, lox , whitefish , and other fishy treats. Read more
If anyone ever asks you where the breakfast scene is in NY outside of a Long Island bagel shop. The answer is Barney Greengrass on the upper west side!Best Lox I have ever had in all my travels.????????????
Lox on a bagel or sturgeon with scrambled eggs . Thank me later. This neat spot has been open forever with an old school deli charm that makes it stand out above the rest.
Classic! Try the sturgeon, pastrami lox , or whitefish salad on a bagel . Scrambled eggs with sturgeon and onion are excellent too.
My order - a whitefish sandwich (not the spread!) on an everything bagel with cream cheese , tomatoes , and onions . You can’t beat it.
The staples of Jewish-American cuisine (lox , bagels , pumpernickel , blintzes, matzo ball soup ) great here. It’s packed on the weekend. Bring cash cuz they don’t accept cards .
The OG. The sturgeon king . Barney Greengrass is everything - bialy meets whitefish salad and a bit of less-salty nova makes the best breakfast and brunch New York can offer.
Breakfast - Pastrami Omelette w/ Horseradish Cheddar & Everything Bagel . Lunch - Triple Decker #7 Turkey , Pastrami , Cole Slaw and Russian Dressing . Perfect serving size, not tacky like Carnegie's.
Ask the old Jews of the Upper West Side where to get the best lox , and they'll point you to this classic appetizing shop, which has been in business since 1908. Read more
Pastrami salmon was amazing! Biali was tasty but bagels a bit stale. I recommend buying the cured fish and getting bagels elsewhere
A staple bagel spot in NYC on the Upper West Side, but prepared for a hefty bill for smaller, classic style bagels . The seating is also somewhat small, so maybe grab something to go.

True destination for top notch smoked nova, lox , or sturgeon. Can't miss on any (hint: nova is less salty). While you're here, might as well grab some latkes .
Expensive bagel ,, but worth it.. ~100 years old family place has retained its authenticity thru all generations. My favorite is Novia & Sable on toasted bialy w/scallion cream cheese , onions & capers !
Sorry Russ & Daughters, but these guys have the best appetizing in NYC. Try the gravlax for an often overlooked but almost universally loved smoked salmon choice.
This Upper West Side staple has an incredible selection of bagels , cream cheeses and smoked fish - not to mention, amazing whitefish salad .
Came here with mom! Had the latkes , pastrami sando brady loved, and bagel w lox .
This is the real deal for bagels ,bialys and all manner of smoked fish . A must stop for foodies who want to experience Jewish breakfast
Cured fish is the focus here and there’s no better place for a fish-centric brunch . Try the whitefish salad on a bagel or the scrambled eggs with sturgeon .
The straightforward breakfast fare at this upper west side deli/brunch joint is phenomenally good. You don't have to get any cured fish , but it's highly recommended.
Smoked fish and more smoked fish !!! Some of the best I’ve had in NY.
Go for breakfast and get the lox or sturgeon and eggs . Great with a bialy bagel and cream cheese . Fresh OJ too!
Sit down with a cup of coffee and an unbeatable bagel sandwich—smoked salmon , cream cheese , tomato—and take in the throwback scene. Long live the "Sturgeon King "! Read more

Splurge on the sturgeon, it's worth it. The bagel platters are terrific but I am partial to the scramble with sturgeon and onions .
For a totally different kind of "pancake ," head to this Upper West Side Jew-food institution for awesome latkes (savory potato pancakes ), and get it with either smoked salmon or sturgeon on top. mmm.
Gotta get get the Sturgen on an Everything Bagel . White Fish and Nova Scotia Salmon are delicious too.
Jesus it's expensive and everything is really good
Awesome sesame bagel sando w lox
Nova lox and white fish salad platter is out of this world. Enough for two people. Get the orange juice .
Their whitefish salad tastes more like celery than fish . On my $14 salmon & cream cheese sandwich they put the TINIEST "shmear" of cream cheese ; it was pathetic. But at least the salmon 's delicious.
Whole wheat everything, toasted, with scallion. Every time. Perfectly crispy, loads of cream cheese. The line moves very quickly - these guys are consumate pros. - Conor O'Hollaren
