Le MAHJ retrace deux mille ans de vie des communautés juives de France en les situant dans l'histoire générale du judaïsme. Il conserve des collections muséographiques publiques ou privées, mais aussi des fonds d'archives et de documentation se rapportant à l'art et à l'histoire des juifs.
