根場はかぶと造りの茅葺の民家が建ち並ぶ誉れ高い集落でしたが、昭和41年の台風災害により甚大な被害を受け、集落のほとんどが消滅してしまいました。40数年の歳月を経て昔懐かしい茅葺屋根群と富士山 の景色 が蘇り、「西湖いやしの里根場」が誕生しました。
