The Patriarchal Basilica of St. Mary Major reigns as an authentic jewel in the crown of Roman churches. Its beautiful treasures are of inestimable value, and represent the Church's role as the cradle of Christian artistic civilization in Rome.
Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore 00184 Rome Latium Italy
Rather drab-looking exterior hides a fantastic interior. The largest church dedicated to Mary in all Rome.
I'd say go in the daytime, because we went at night and a lot of the interior was not lit up. I could see where the light from the windows would help. A great church you otherwise!
Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore – Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore (Termini) - One of the basilicas of Rome in all its Baroque style glory. If you like mosaics , this is a definite must-see.
The las arquitectural work of Michelangelo. A bit forgotten by tourists and a gem amidst too many churches . It has some Vatican artwork and some hidden surprises.
It has the relic of the Holy Crib, shards from the Holy Manger, a piece of the True Cross, and the tombs of St. Matthew, St. Jerome, and Pope Pius V.
Another piece of art . If you want to visit a few churches , this is definitely one of them! Great interior, I stayed there and admired it.
One of the most beautiful churches in Rome .. Don't forget to see the crypt too.
It is the largest Catholic Marian church in Rome . Other churches in Rome dedicated to Mary include Santa Maria in Trastevere, Santa Maria in Aracoeli and Santa Maria sopra Minerva
Inside there are lot’s of beautiful and important thing, and all of this is free. The excursion you will be offered for 5 euro for the ‘underground’. It’s a little bit boring, but underground is ok
Favorite church I visited in Rome. It's so massive and stunning, really breathtaking. Make sure you visit it.
There is a guided tour for the aecond floor, which is Vatican territory. Bring your passport! :)
At night with light on, without too much crowd - you can enjoy serene thoughtful moments. And imagine how this city ruled much of the world back in the days.
The church is also called Our Lady of the Snow, a name given to it in the Roman Missal from 1568 to 1969 in connection with the liturgical feast of the anniversary of its dedication on 5 August. Read more

Do NOT forget to visit Bernini 's grave within the basilica,it's on the north eastern part of the hall and it's on the floor(also a map near the entrance). Also don't step on it :)

Amazing interior, great place to visit.
Christ and his mother sit enthroned in the circle which represents the Universe , beyond is the gold sky and angels of Heaven.
Big and massive on outside it tends to feel a lot smaller on the inside, basically due to lack of light and dark upper part of walls.
Absolutely amazing view at night
