Back in the 1800s, the Notch House stood here in Crawford Notch. Although it doesn't still, Frank Shapleigh's painting of 1879 reminds us of the days when it did! Find it here: 44 12' 57"N 71 24' 34"W
Two hunters, Nash and Sawyer, discovered the notch when following a moose along a stream. Their findings were published and they were rewarded with a tract of land: “Nash and Sawyer’s Location.”
Not super kid friendly (no playground ) But my hubs and I have been coming alone since 2005, and will continue for the foreseeable future.
