Michigan Central Station, built in mid-1912 through 1913 was Detroit's passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 after the previous station burned, until the Amtrak stopped service on January 6, 1988. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world.

We were down for the investment dinner put on by Crain's Detroit on 09/13/17. They light the building up with different colors, very nice.
Despite the hundreds-of-millions of dollars it may take to restore the structure , the economic impact of drawing businesses and people back to the area would last for decades down the road . Read more

They've started retrofitting it and it's closed to the public, they've bordered up the under the bridge entrance and have commercial security on the worksite.

"break in" to this abandoned building and poke around a bit, but chicken out about exploring the upper floors for fear of who might be squatting there.
