Historic dive bar with barstools named for famous visitors. Quite a few bar games . If I lived here, it’d be my go-to haunt.
Loved this bar . So much cool interesting history stored in here. Captain Tony is a legend. Great live music , great drinks = great memories. A must visit.
Oldest bar in Florida ! Home of the original sloppy joe sandwich . Live music and lots of bras hanging around. In the heart of it all and rocks! Capt Tony captained the boat for Hemingway and friends.
Try a Papa Dobles: two and a half jiggers of white Bacardi, juice of two fresh limes , juice of half a grapefruit and 6 drops of maraschino - it was the occasional drink of Hemingway 's.
Gravestones in the bar , a tree growing right in the middle of everything, a legit skeleton behind the bar . Oh and Hemingway hung out here. Can't ask for a better dive bar . Thanks for the tour Jay!
The first Sloppy Joes , old world charm, and the Amber Ale is great
Classic key west drinking establishment. Gets quite a bit of the tourist crowd but worth checking it out
Good dive bar in key west. A must for the dive bar lover.
Get the tour from Anthony. If you sit next to the tree , don’t put your feet down (walk on someone’s grave!)
The bar where Hemingway frequented while he lived in Key West. Nice live music while you play pool , fooseball .
Wicked! Lots of dusty bras, a tree growing in the middle of the bar , nice live music and a prosthetic leg hangs from the ceiling! Come leave your mark!
This is the oldest bar in Florida so I suggest you read up on it's colorful history before visiting, it will make the trip much more memorable!
What can I say?? You have to visit this historic bar !
Nice history and a haunted women's bathroom...watch out for the famous punch...it'll sneak up on you.
Look at the old pics of Tony & customers that are on wall around pool table . Great history.
Authentic dive bar of which Buffett sings. Although, too many Parrotheads now frequent, so I go around the corner to "The Green Parrott."
Very laid back and not over crowded . Great history and very divey in all the right ways.
A must-see for Buffett fans visiting Key West. Captain Tony Taracino was a close friend of Jimmy's and the inspiration for the song "Last Mango in Paris ."
All you need is a tremendous sex drive and a great ego. Brains don't mean shit.
Best place for live music and fun. With Hana Yun
Lovely ambience :) no food, strong drinks !!
Try a Captain Tony's Amber while you are here! Discount on refills with the souvenir cup .
Gotta throw a quarter into the groupers mouth outside leaning backwards upside down.
These guys will charge your phone and make your drink. Awesome.
The original Hemingway bar and much more fascinating and less commercialized than Sloppy Joe 's.
Ladies, hang your bra from the ceiling to be forever immortalized in Florida's oldest bar . And check out the REAL skeleton hanging behind the bar counter.
You have to have the pirate's punch. Very refreshing and it really has booze in it.
Beer refills are $3.75-just so it! Oh, & it's the main bar that Hemingway visited-never know what might inspire you.
With your back to the fish , try to fling a quarter in the fishes mouth.
Ask your bartender the stories behind some of the graves. And the skeleton hanging on the wall beside a register.
One of the "must stops" in Key West. Check the box
Look at all the dollar bills and other fun thing posted to the walls!
My hubby is my hero as he got a quarter in the fish 's mouth!
Check out the Hanging tree and the tombstone in the pool table room. Watch out for ghosts !
Hemingways hangout!!! Must see, within crawling distance of the current sloppy joes !
Some places are a must see for the experience, this could be one.....
The pirates punch is pretty awesome. Also walk around and check out tombstones people were actually buried here.
Hemingway met Gellhorn here when it was still called Sloppy Joe 's.
The original!
Bourbon and scotch drinkers beware...they dont have rocks glasses. It's a little hard drinking bourbon on the rocks out of a little dixie cup :(
The decoration is amazing music alive
Great people and service
Great dive bar .
I've been there! Back then though, we called it "Captain Phonies."
if you leave a business card you might get called lol. Happened to me!
Have fun in the S & M room.. Great photo op ;)
Fun times!
Interesting place for a lot of history about Key West
Have a painkiller cocktail
This is a KW staple full of history. Captain yee shall be missed.
All of the live musicians were hilarious and really make it a great atmosphere. Good beer specials for Duval as well - Corey Everett
Awesome mahi-mahi. The corned beef and cabbage was really good. Hot Toddy is a nice desert. - Sean Ballesteros
Atmosphere, entertainment, souvenirs, and of course the infamous Sloppy Joes. Don't miss it! - Jill Brailey
