The Art department of Akateeminen kirjakauppa is an infinite source of inspiration. The Store is designed by famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto so even if you’re not into books it’s worth visiting.
The best bookstore in helsinki, situated in the smaller stockmann building. It has sofas you can sit down and read as well .
Helsinki’s biggest bookstore is another building designed by Alvar Aalto and naturally has a large selection of books about him - as well as any other imaginable subject.
Stockmann’s academic bookstore has been an institution since the city centre department store opened in 1930. The best book shop in the city & claims to be the biggest in the Nordic countries .
One of the bigger bookstores in Helsinki. Includes also a selection of books in original language.
Great range of books , magazines & newspapers. Many in English & good selection of Finnish design books
the place you dream of when you think bookstore . It's not a hurried place, but one that speaks of leisurely reads and great books .
Postcards, notebooks and art & office supplies can be found downstairs in the basement . There is also a tunnel connecting Akateeminen to Stockmann .
One of my favourite bookstores .. in the world! Whenever I'm in Helsinki, I pay Akateeminen a visit.

Perfect for a sneak peak of Alvar Aalto 's design, just step in <3
Great to grab a coffee and spend some time looking through books and stationary.
Best and largest book store in Helsinki . Remember to try out also the second floor Cafe .
Great service and huge selection of books in various languages but you pay for the convenience.
Even if you don't need to buy a book , it's worth a visit for its architecture .
Sit back in one of those cosy armchairs downstairs on a Friday afternoon, leaf through some books or just watch people beginning their weekends.
On the negative: not exactly the best deals but on the positive: you can find most of the books you might be looking for and the staff is just great.
The bookshop built by Alvar Aalto is definitely a must in Helsinki!

A must visit every time I'm in town .
Cool bookstore !))
Lots of stationery goods upstairs!
After re-decorating, it's not the same anymore. It's leaner, cleaner looks lack the old-school appeal the place was known for for decades.
Great service. I was advised to change my book to another so that I understand the full story (Margaret Atwood).
No lines on 3rd floor cashiers !
Cafés , books and atmosphere...feels nice.
Books books books , love this place !❤
Still one of the best and biggest book stores in northern Europe.
The best selection of sci-fi and fantasy books in town !
it's hard to find the desirable book by title - they even use computers but with no reason - no exact shelf etc
The selection is absolutely adorable – take your time to wonder through nonfiction departments on 2nd and 3rd floors.

It's designed by Alvar Aalto , but that's about it. It's really a regular bookstore .
