One of the finest Jacobian mansions in England. Built between 1603 - 1618 by a local wool merchant Walter Jones, on land purchased from Robert Catesby, one of the gunpowder plotters. Ref: AA Walks
Great heritage site with knowledgeable and attentive staff . I found it more charming than most of the better preserved and fancier alternatives.
On a hot day, go down to the beer cellar where it's lovely and cool. Unfortunately there are no beers left there.
