Castle of the Counts is a castle Patershol Ghent located in Belgium.
Sint-Veerleplein 11 (Geldmunt) 9000 Ghent Belgium
This is not the oldest building of Ghent ! What you see is a 19th Century "romantic " reconstruction of the original, of which only ruins were left at that time. Worth a visit nonetheless !
Very nice place - both for children and adults. The tour takes around 30-60 minutes, depending on how much you choose to read. The top of the castle gives an impressive overview of a beatiful city .
Built in 1180 by count Philip of Alsace , the "Castle of the Counts" was the seat of the Counts of Flanders until the 14th century.
Beautiful both on the inside and the outside. The 10€ ticket allows for audio guide that takes you through the history about the castle itself and life in it.
This tour isn't free, but an easy walk through the castle interior, spires, ramparts, & dungeon. There's a room dedicated to the history of torture as well .
When you visit Ghent you have to visit this beautiful castle . Nice view at the top and very interesting to discover everything.
Nice place to visit. You get a good view from Ghent and learn the history in the same time. Especially the torture rooms are worth a visit.
Its much more amazing during the sunset time. Take a boat trip and be ready to take insta shots It's is a guarantee to collect 100 likes :)
Built in the 12th century by count Philip of Alsace , served as the seat of the Counts of Flanders, a courthouse , a prison and a cotton plant. Nice collection of torture instruments inside.
It worth to have a tour in the only castle so big in the center of any town in Europe...
Banners floating atop the castle walls in the breeze, a sinister torture room and an impressive armory. Small wonder BBC's 15th century drama series 'The White Queen' was shot here.
The ruins of original castle built in XII century lie near.
Eh if you've been to other castles in Europe , this won't blow your socks off. If you haven't - nevermind it's amazing!
One of the most beautiful castle I've ever seen. The torture expedition isn't 10 € worth. But the whole castle itself is really nice.
The castle is fascinating from the outside, but there was lack of information. There was a torture part of the castle and you can see the materials which they have used for torturing people.
The name Gravensteen means "castle of the count". The panorama of Gent can be seen best on the top of the castle .
Beautiful castle . And the audio tour was fantastic made the the tour really fun
Definitely worth a visit! Come hour before closing time otherwise you don't get in!
I'm not a fan of audio guides but it's worth taking it here.

Amazing castle - great audio guide , fantastic views of the city .
One of the most impressive crusader-era castles in Europe
Fun self-guided tour of the castle and grounds!
It looks better from outside than from inside - not worth spending €10 on the entry ticket
The perfect spot for the kids.
You can charge your phone in the Cellar.
A must-do if you're about to visit Ghent!

Most crowded and the most vibrant plaza in Ghent when the sun is out it's a real challenge to find a good spot on the terrace. They've recently added some trees and it's a very nice extra!. - Jonas Van de Vyver
