Geno's steaks was founded in 1966 by Joey Vento. After Joey passed away in 2011, his son Geno took over and has been running the famous Philly Cheesesteak spot since.

You can't leave Philadelphia without deciding who makes the best cheesesteaks . Located across from Pat's King of Steaks , the two cheesesteak meccas have been competing for more than 40 years.
Loved their onion , whiz & American cheese steak-sandwich. I highly recommend buying it and keeping wrapped for 20 mins or more (longer better) to let the flavor really soak in. Made a huge difference!
The HOT sauce ! It may look bland or mild, but it has tons of heat packed in every ounce, and it lingers. A few drops across your sandwich should be MORE than enough. Wash it all down with Birch Beer ..
This is a great attraction in Philly, but it is really overrated. You can definitely get a much better cheesesteak in south philly. I do not reccomend it for your first Philly cheesteak.
French fries with special cheese are to die for!!! The cheesesteak sandwiches are amazing... We chose Geno's over Pats (across the street) ????
Famous Philly cheesesteak temple . Like it so much! So simple formula, tasty and perfect for a night “snack ”.
Mostly for the tourists ,this is one of Phillys big 3 Steak joints, and while tasty (especially with "Wiz" on it)it's still pales to the OG classics like Pats Steaks or "Jims" further uptown.
Cheesesteaks : Pat's vs Geno's--Geno's won. My biggest tip would be to wrap the whiz-wit for at least 5-10mins instead of having it immediately. Juices of the steak&melted whiz REALLY come together!
Excellent place to get an authentic Philly cheesesteak . Ordering will be easier if you know the lingo. Wiz with = cheese whiz & onions .
Get the cheesesteak with onions , it’s a bit more filling than without. And remember, the hot sauce is HOT!!!
Truly are the best cheesesteaks and I’m fantastic at ratting food. Believe me when I say these bad boys are phenomenal
This is the only place where they didn’t cut the meat down to bits. I feel like I am more on the side of chopping it up. ???? It felt like Geno‘s left us a bit short on cheese whiz , doesn‘t it... ????????
Customer service is good. They'll give you stuff on the side where as Pat's won't. It is cash only ! Our group had a taste test. 2 for Pat's. 2 for Geno's.
It's a little out of the way, but if you're ever in Philadelphia it's worth making the detour for the super juicy "whiz wit " <3
The hot sauce is insanely hot! I had to get a napkin and wipe off as much as I can. And I like hot sauce but sheesh!
Whiz wit . Cash only . Served hot so be patient. Stuffing your face right after you get your hands on a steak will earn you a burnt mouth.
Cash Only . Delicious Cheesesteaks . I like the "cheesesteak wit onions & whiz " Meat is not chopped unlike Pat's.
I think Genos is the best cheese steak in Philly. There are other good ones too- but if you want the experience- this one is it- complete with the east coast "watta ya want!!?" attitude.
Pat's or Geno's?! Geno's for me. Know what you want, order quick, pay in cash, and get outta the way. Welcome to Philadelphia.
Oprah, Sylvester Stallone, Barack Obama and Patti LaBelle have eaten here, among others. The owner caused a national controversy in 2006 by demanding only English be spoken. Regardless, go "Whiz wit ." Read more
visited here because friends told me it was a must. Best philly cheese steak i've had. Always a huge line so make sure you put your order in right the first time because they wont hesitate to kick you
They are quite the yumminess, but neither them or pats are the best cheese steaks in the city !!! But it is an awesome place to go to introduce a visitor to the culture of Philly.
Just tried Pat's and Geno's for the first time. Pat's wins. The cheese is much better at Pats, there's more beef , it tastes better. Geno's is dry, kind of carby, barely grilled onions cafeteria food .
We encourage you to make your own cheesesteak decision. Geno's is one you have to check out.
World famous Geno's is best enjoyed after midnight. If you would like to see a hodgepodge of construction workers, clubgoers, and tourists , look no further! Keep in mind that it's cash only .
The Govt, only 30,000 mexicans were murderd in Juarez alone last year, where will the killers run to,hopefully you will sing koon by ya and eat falafels aftr they give your soft arse think before u act
Their hot sauce by the condiment station is SO hot ! Other then that very good cheesesteak
Edward H, point was his immigrants assimulated and came thru ellis island you dope, nite and day its like you and brains, whole concept is Americans are allowed to say what they want and they arent
There cheesesteak 's are damn delicious, I've been coming here for years, since I was 8 years old.
Whiz wit cheesesteak hoagie , $10.
FNIA's Rodney Harrison says:"If you've never had an authentic cheesesteak , go right now!" SNF rolls into Philadelphia on Sun.,Oct. 30 as the Eagles take on the Cowboys. Tune in at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.
There are two long lines . Go across the street and get your cheesesteak from Pat's instead if you like chopped steaks instead of sliced like this.
One of the best chessesteak in Philly.
Yea, cause Geno never did anything for slain cops, his money jagoff it is America and Geno had sum slanted Views but he dud tons for police widows more then you have, moss on the arse of life !
Cheese steak wit wiz and mushrooms please .....my wifes favorite ....I like it across the street though
Very fast service and it’s cash only
Cash Only . A must have (along with Pat's) just to say you did it. Jim's on South Street is better. Plus Geno's is very opinionated and they have those opinions posted everywhere. Sounds racist ...
While Geno's might rub some liberals the wrong way, it can definitely win them back over with their steaks and birch beer . I pick Geno's over Pat's everytime.
The relatively newer and flashier of the two “feuding” restaurants . I prefer the one one because this bread is too chewy
Is the best cheessteak i ever had
Don't use the ATM across the street. It has a skimmer device on it.
Great steak subs . We love them!
Yummy but freezing outside. Wish they had inside area for tourists like us
The Best cheese steak I've ever had! Try also fries ..that's yummy yummy!!
there's only 2 kinds of people leaving tips here: crybabies from Pat's, and people that know a Damn good cheesesteak comes from Geno's! History wins every time.
A solid tasting cheesesteak but a little skimpy
When ordering, First tell them what cheese you want. Second, with or without onions . Hi! Can I get a Provolone wit? Good! Have cash in hand. Enjoy!
Exteriorly, the place looked like a gentleman's club; however, the cheesesteaks were filling. Though I still recommend Pat's King of Steaks .
Whiz without, cheese fries and birch beer . Make sure you order in English

stir fry is awesome! nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy, with a neat little lock-box charging station - Emily Morris
This place is perfect for a late night drink! They also have late night menu w/ 5$ meals. The place is also wonderfully decorated. Beers start at 3.5$ - Pap V.
Cozy place. Came here on a cold day. Staff is attentive and friendly. As a whiskey drinker, I enjoyed my tequila based drink, Farmacia. Delicious. - Sharon Chen
It's a beautiful area and the tours are great! Fun Philly neighborhood. Great restaurants nearby! - David Waldman
Unreal. Easily one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. You HAVE to wait in line and take the tour of the inside. Breathtaking views into history. - Colin Nelson
