Carpenters' Hall stands out architecturally . Its proportions are perfect; it has a sense of balance, of time & place. Carpenters ’ Company (oldest trade guild in US, founded in 1724) still owns it!
In 1798, the country 's first bank robbery took place here, when a guild member stole more than $163,000 from the Bank of Pennsylvania , then located in the building.
Host to the first meeting of the Continental Congress in 1774, Carpenters' Hall is now included on the National Register of Historic Places. It is visited annually by over 150,000 tourists . Read more
