Barter Theatre is a professional, repertory theatre & offers productions Feb—Dec. Please note, when evening performances are scheduled, the box office is open until 7:45pm Tues—Thurs, 8:15pm Fri and Sat and 7pm on Sun. Barter has two unique stages: Barter Main Stage and Barter Stage II.

The shows that we have seen there have always been wonderful. This weekend we saw "Footloose." All of the actors and chorus performers were enthusiastic and thrilling in their performances .
Bob Porterfield, Barter’s founder, did what few actors have ever accomplished. He auditioned for and landed a role in a Broadway production the day after graduating from the AADA.
Row 2 & 3 center balcony are some of the best seats in the house. For a more intimate experience in which you nearly share the stage with the players, see a show at Barter Stage II .
This building, originally Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church , built in 1833, is the second-oldest theatrical building in the United States .
Barter Theatre opened 6/10/1933, proclaiming, "With vegetables you cannot sell, you can buy a good laugh." The price of admission was 40 cents or the equivalent in produce, meat, or live animals.
Photo Tip: The Midsummer Play Fountain is a very photogenic location in town with easy access from the parking lot at Barter Stage II , but bring a wide angle lens for the best photos.
Some of the best seats in the house can be found in the balcony , box left or right, on row 1.
Before becoming Barter Theatre, the building served as a town hall , prison , volunteer fire station , opera house and church .
Every play I have seen has been spectacular! The Barter never disappoints!
