On a clear day, with the tide out, this can be an awsome sight. The engineering is amazing. There is a visitor centre at the side of the barrier. Also a really well kept park .
Visit for peace and quite.Marvellous piece of engineering . Don't forget to visit the museum at Information Centre which gives interesting facts about river Thames, barrier and city of London
Great to see and right next to a park on the south side although the visitor centre is on the north side
Amazing infrastructure that keeps London dry during super tides . Great park beside it also.
Visit the Thames Barrier during the annual test closure to see it in action (usually in September or October): <aclass="entity url"rel="nofollow" href="http://bit.ly/2y1EbcY"target="_blank" data-sig="rd3t8KVc+EEwutjlEa8qlMw8O3U=" onmousedown="fourSq.ui.OutgoingLink.mousedown($(this), event)" data-source="tip-text">http://bit.ly/2y1EbcY</a>
Get the clipper to woolwich for the best view as you pass through it.
Having this experience and getting to know more about London's flood 1953 was tremendous!
Cafe excellent and children's souvenirs are extremely cheap . Sharpener, rubber & 3 pencils 50p !!
Life-saving cafe on a cold day, with really friendly staff . Not a rip off, either.
Were actually two other people in the visitors centre ... still the coffee was decent
My favourite barrier

Lovely views of the city from here. Can get very crowded on warm days. There's more to the Heath than Parliament hill. Take the time to explore. - Tim O'Donovan
Very nice venue. Come early to grab a drink or a snack there's tons of little places around - Cami Heitz
A lovely pub, with lovely, fresh food - might just have to make this a local, albeit a cycle away. - Kanga_Rue
This is a gem in East London. Has a nice cafe in the middle and the park for kids is well maintained. Some excellent flowers and features with a great view of the Thames Barrier. - Jason
