St Mark's Basilica is a church Piazza San Marco Venice located in Italy.
Calle Canonica (San Marco 328) 30124 Venice Veneto Italy
Impressive architecture ! For women there are special requirements for covered shoulders and legs. Free to enter, but charge to further facilities. Treasury holds some remains of Venetian doges.
I naively booked onto a €20 tour but didn't realise the museum was only €5! However the tour was informative if not a bit rushed and our guide was very knowledgeable . Highly recommend more than once!
Note: interior mosaics are highlighted 11:30-12:30 daily, it's the best time to get inside. Also they don't let you inside with a back-pack: either use storage facility nearby, or split into groups.
Beautiful Byzantine style cathedral inspired by Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. And the original bronze horses upstairs are remarkable. Don’t miss the view from the terrace . Definitely take a guided tour !
Buy your tickets in advance. Super crowded in May. Even by paying more for skip the line you would probably stand in line for entering the church . It worth go visit.
Some of the best-preserved and most impressive Byzantine mosaics are located on northwestern corner of the Basilica. Best of all? They are free to admire and photograph ! No flash, of course.
Did you know that St. Mark's Basilica is modeled after Constantine the Great's Church of the Holy Apostles and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul?
A truly big and beautiful piece of architecture and Venetian history is represented by this impressive building. Free entry but be prepared to pay for things inside.
You have to drop your backpacks to the street to the left of the entrance. Also no photography inside the basilica but you can take pictures once outside at the terrace on the second floor.
A great piece of Byzantine architecture . Entrance is free but you need to pay for access to each section other than tbe church .
this is amazing work. i was so amused by the story. but i think it is too rich for a church . and is there st marks body still? you must see it for sure!
Take a good memory picture because cameras and recording devices are no longer available. Also bear in mind that you have to leave your belongings on a street across the temple !
This is one of the best churches in Venice , and an example of the finest Byzantine architecture . Pay attention to the great detail in the mosaic inside and the Horses of St. Mark outside.
The line looks intimidatingly long but moves quickly. If your shoulders are exposed or shorts are too short they will ask you to cover up or purchase a cloth to wear temporarily I believe at 1€.
Beautiful, free entry, line is long but moves fast. Try go early morning on a working day.
In 1204, The Crusades captured, vandalized a large part of Constantinople being the Capital City of Byzantine Emperor and then They took 4 bronze horse statues standing on Hippodrome entrance off here
Take a good memory picture since recording devices and cameras are no longer available. Bear in mind that you have to leave your belongings on a street across the temple !
Spectacular - well worth the visit. Mosaics are amazing, and the treasury has a fascinating collection with a good audio guide
You can admire all the Greek and Byzantine frescoes and icons and of course the four bronze horses . All of them stolen by Venetians from Constantinople in 1204. #History.
Always lots of people but of course worth a visit. Even better when you choose an audioguide to explain all the mosaics everywhere.
Free entry, long lines , and a quick march around the interior (or pay to see the good stuff). Do it if you're into this sort of thing, but skip if you're on the fence.
Lines form early. If you don't want to see the museum just go straight through the doors once you pass security.
Very beautiful! Not possible to enter without proper outfit (you are not allowed to visit if you are in shorts or to revealing tops).
Don't miss it. But you have to PAY EXTRA tickets for the balcony , the remains of San Marco, the campanile and the treasure. Italians know how to make the most of it.
Take your time walking through the basilica. The art is stunning and the relics are worth any wait in line .
The doge's private church until the 18-19th century. A lot of the ornaments are stolen from Constantinopol during the 4th Crusade
Free entry but make sure you get there early. Aim for 9am and check your bags in to the free cloakroom before joining the queue
Cover your shoulders and your thighs! They WILL make you purchase a scarf for 1€, I had to buy one for my legs and one for my shoulders. Come prepared to save money and avoid looking like a monk.
Beautiful church and mosaics , worth the visit. The line isn't that long. Have cash on yourself as you have to pay to go upstairs.
5 euros to go into the museum , the second story and the balcony outside.
Upper level worth every cent
Work with a local guide to skip the line , and enjoy incredible frescos and other pieces of art from this Byzantine-style basilica.
Stand in one of the balconies , where 4 centuries ago the composer Giovanni Gabrieli arranged multiple brass choirs for his music and view the walls encrusted with beautiful mosaics .
A must see in Venedig - buy the tickets in advance for 2 EUR for the fast track
Beautiful place in Venice! and so much to learn from this arts
Awesome, just awesome, mosaics . Must have take years...
Basically, free entrance, by sub-entrances (inside) have to be paid
Portrait of the Four Tetrarchs and the Quadriga horses have been stolen and brought here from Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade .
St Mark’s Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) is one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in the world.
Long line to get in but even the views from outside are stunning!
Super busy when I went in July , good to see though
Don't just crane your neck upward to see the mosaics . Look down, too. The floors are amazing 3D mosaics .
It's so beautiful but there are just sooooooo. Many. People. EVERYWHERE! And €14 for a glass of wine close by?! Hell to the MF Nooooooo
I would suggest they give the inside of this building a good dusting, it is filthy! Oh and it's a cash cow! Worth a visit tho to see what the fuss is about. No photos allowed inside the building.
the gold altar. St. Mark. great experience of the midnight mass on 12/25 (line up at 10:30 PM on 12/24 to get a seat)
Beautiful place. Though I felt like I was at a pop concert with an average age of 12- everybody is constantly taking photos even though it is clearly disallowed.
One of the great looking churches with amazing architecture !
If you check a bag at the official bag check around the corner they give you a free "cut the queue" pass and can go right in without a reservation .
Amazing Basilica. Worth to pay and see the view
The architecture ...the little shops, and the nice Italian people that live there
