Bargaining tip for street vendors : Always claim you have less money with you than the real amount in your wallet. They'll agree to YOUR price if they think anything higher will make you walk away.

New York Habitat

Step into Chinatown, a world of its own, where more than 2 million NYC residents live. There is great authentic Chinese food here and street vendors are all over.

WorldStrides

New York’s Chinatown is not only the largest in the U.S., but is the largest Chinese community outside of Asia. It spreads across 40 square blocks and has more than 150,000 residents. Look carefully

Almost as expected, although much more quiet than 10 years ago. Make sure to check it out during the night as well if you have the time.

Virginie Liao

Walk around to explore the area. It's crowded and the sidewalks are narrow. Try something from the bakeries or the dim sum restaurants . I'd avoid the souvenir shops.

Brad Hager

Delicious food, and good shopping. Love the bustling crowds and the sensory overload you get here. Great experience.

Yiola Valtoudi

Try the dim sum at “go go”. Great variety of vegetarian and fish/meat combinations

You're walking around the city and suddenly you are caught in China! everybody is got to have a place like this in their cities , it's also interesting because of the visible culture differences

Good restaurants and a few decent souvenir stores . Did not experience aggressive shopkeepers. Was able to haggle and get decent prices. Not bad but it was a Wednesday night. I would go back.

Get your fake handbags , watches, and whatever else on the corner of Canal & Mott or Centre & Baxter. Look for the suspicious Asian guy with the pizza box. ????

Great place for seafood and purses . If someone says they have good deals - follow them with your friends. You may be weirded out but won't be disappointed in the end.

So many choices in types of cuisines. The fruit and seafood markets are always so fresh and cheap ! !

Terrific vibrant place with real street markets and great food!

Despite the weird smells from the fish markets , there are a lot of great restaurants around here. Get mini chinese pancakes from the cart near the corner of Mulberry and Canal - they're 15 for $1.00!

The Negotiation Institute (TNI)

Canal St . is a great way to test out your negotiation skills with the flocks of vendors selling replica bags and watches. Those vendors are negotiation PROs.

Go to Jing Fong in Elizabeth Street for the best dim sum ! There's always a line on the weekend but it's worth it!

Make sure to always bring cash with you. Places rarely accept credit cards here.

Ethnic enclave where dreams are made... Come see a true NYC immigrant neighborhood where community and hard work are still the currency of the land instead of...currency.
