Café 't Papeneiland

Love this place, friendly table service and great to sit outside and watch the world go by

This building from 1641, with two trapgevels, has been a cafe for 200 years. Since 50 years or so the cafe has been run by (now 72 y/o) Tiel who is assisted by his son, daughter in law and grandson.

Came here to try the apple pie . Love that it has raisins in it and it comes with lots of cream. One of the good apple pies place in town .

Very good homemade apple pie Dutch style without sugar in the filling, which makes it very light. The place is very cozy , full of character and history.

Outstanding little cafe on a busy corner of Jordaan. A great place to waste an afternoon watching Amsterdam.

Apple pie is less sweet (which is good) than in Winkel 43, but the crust is much less delicious. So it's a nice appeltaart , but not a great one.

Lovely cafe with a good history. Everything is old, but it gives the special spirit to this place. My favorite!

Tiel Netel (the old owner pictured on canvas) will tell you the story of the Papen (Catholics) fleeing through tunnels and coming back up to ground level in this pub (1650+)
