Create a buffer zone with beach towels and chairs to avoid the 'close-sitting' beach goers (i.e. people who sit within arms length of you).

If you can spot the beach tag people ahead of time just go down to the water and they won't check you.
In July and August they now check your beach tags at the entrance to the beach .
After Labor Day beach tags are no longer required.
