White's Ferry

For C&O bike riders who came frm the south on that really really long muddy lonely 20 mile dark wet stretch, get a cold soda B 4 you get on! Huge hill on other side + 5 miles 2 any hotel on busy road !

C&O MILE 36- Located in Dickerson, Maryland , the only cable ferry service across the Potomac, carrying cars, people, and bikes . 7 days, 5am-11pm. $2 / Bicycle

It was pretty good but the large parking lot was extremely very muddy on 10/27 as a result of the rain

The Ferry ⛴ ride is short and quick. Ca be affected by ice on the rivers

Parking is tough at most places along the C&O. Weekdays are best. EARLY on the weekend. Bug repellant during the season. VERY pleasant in spring and fall. Bring your camera .

The ferry is not open. But there is a good free parking lot for entering and hiking the C&O Canal .

Open 5 am - 11 pm. $5 one way or $8 round trip

MD Civil War Trail : Here the major part of the Army of Northern VA forded the Potomac River into MD on Sept. 5-6, 1862, while a Confederate band played "Maryland , My Maryland !"

This cable ferry is the only one operating on the Potomac River . It is named after Confederate General Jubal A. Early. Call ahead, ice or heavy rain can close the ferry .

Quick access to Leesburg from Moco , esp useful if there's traffic on 495

Civil War Site: A major part of Lee's army forded the Potomac River 2 miles north of this modern ferry crossing.

Got to watch it some times if the ticket man thinks you don't know the prices he"'ll try to get you

The gravel parking lot was pretty muddy indeed
