I just cannot believe I rated this place with a heart! Totally shocking how much better this place has become - in and out in 30 Min!
Patience is a virtue, smile be friendly have all the papers ready (copy registration form, application form + photograph , passport and be sure to go for a digital photo on the first floor!) and done!
The business centre on the 3rd floor will make copies or accept faxes of missing documents for you. Rates are posted 0.5 rmb per copy, 3 rmb per fax. The "helpful" staff will double that rate for you.
Buy the envelope at the back near the toilets so don't need to come pick up, write down address and they'll tell u how much. Pay the visa fee to the postman when he delivered.
Stay awake when waiting for your ticket's number to be called. At 11 am and 4 pm they will suddenly abandon the number system and everyone will rush to the booths and queue. Be ready
When you collect your passport : turn right at the entrance (1st floor), pay the fee (cash only !) and get your passport back at the counters right next to the cashiers .
Front of the building now: the revolving doors in the middle are for exiting the building, the small doors on the left and right for entering (security check).
New regulation: If you need exit/entry-permit for your mixed baby born in SH you have to go to the Chinese parent's Hukou-Town!!! Much trouble ahead!
If you take Line 9 to get here, use Exit 4 of Middle Yanggao Rd Station to cross the busy intersection and skip the long wait at the traffic lights.
Don't look at ur cellphone when u are waiting in the line , you won't notice that someone cut in line in seconds.
If you're here on a Saturday for your Residence Permit, go home :S Reduced staff on.Saturday means they only process the impt stuff like visas and you can't get a residence permit
Nobody enjoys coming here, but it's reasonably efficient. You can get photocopies made on the third floor
They have photocopy machines if you can’t find one.
The Shanghai Entry and Exit Bureau is in the Pudong New Area at No. 1500 Minsheng Road (near Yinchun Road ). The Bureau is open during the hours 9:00 - 11:30 A.M. and 1:30 - 4:30 P.M. Monday thru Fri
Nazi bastards They close at 4:30 for people after work can't go. Local police stations often won't know of the many recent changes of procedures. Be careful and good luck.
Service is good, and quick, everything is pretty well organized .
If you have to wait for a long time (more than 100 people ahead of you), pay a visit to the coffee place on the 1st floor.
Efficient organization
Get here early (~9am) to avoid huge queues. Smile and be friendly . The mood of the person at the counter may be a factor in whether you get what you want or not.
It smells funny in here. Like either a lot of intl ppl mixed in one place, or a lot of ppl who haven't showered . Opting for the latter.
Try to make appointment with your agent early in the morning - you can avoid queues.
Be friendly . And speaking English here and pleading ignorance may or may not help you if fighting a visa overstay fine.
Make sure u buy the courier envelope at the back left so u don't have to come back to this sh*thole to collect ur passport .
From 9 till 5 pm, no wi fi , line moves very slow and be ready that service staff will not tell you the whole list of docs the first time you come
3rd floor for foreigner affairs, come on Saturday, will save a lot of your time.
Diagonally opposite the Crowne Plaza Century Park and shanghai pudong expo building
Updated working visa fee is ¥400/year, usually ¥800/3years!
Meditate yourself before you go so you won't get pissed by their Chinese rudeness/attitude
Just follow the rules and it will be easy and quick
Brilliant after 4pm as no real lines
After 30 people.. such a boring place to wait for your turn.I wish they separate the international immigrants and chinese people to a different building or floor.. That would be better..
Science&tech on line 2 is the right station. Get out from exit #3, straight then right
Far from both line2 science and technology museum station and line9 middle Yanggao Rd . station...
I hope you brought a book or an ipad this might take awhile
Always busy.
The police takes my picture and the agent says "change your wife". Is this a serious recommendation by the immigration authorities of China?
Don't trust Google maps. Foursquare rules
Takes 7 working days to get back your passport now.
Make sure not to arrive between 11:30-13:00. Only a few counters are left open
Now open on Saturdays (and no queue!)
A place i wouldn t like to be mayor...
Visas now take 15 working days to process.
On a good day you get all the Russian models here. On a bad day you get the English teachers .
