Shoes on the Danube Bank is a outdoor sculpture Lipótváros Budapest located in Hungary.
Budapest id. Antal József rakpart (Zoltán u.) 1054 Hungary
Honors Jews who were killed during WW II.Ordered to take off their shoes , shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river . Represents their shoes left behind on the bank .
A very touching sculpture . The moment you realize you are standing in the very same spot where people were shot.., it just gets to you. You imagine them taking their shoes off, shot, corpses in Danube
Read the story from wikipedia and go there. Very nice place and near to the Parliament building.
Spend some time remembering people who were shot under the Nazi regime. Once shot they fell in the Danube. The metallic shoes commemorate these souls.
You can feel an uncertain sadness because of the history behind, you have too lay on the ground for good pictures ????
Remember the horror of the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people. Over a million Hungarian Jews were murdered before the end of the War.
Exactly there are 50 pairs of bronze shoes .
A subtle yet stark monument to those slaughtered at this very spot. Usually crowded with tourists who don't know the story and treat it like a theme park .
Incredibly thought provoking memorial.
A touching and fitting memorial to those who were executed here. A moment to reflect. No photos.
Worth seeing spot in the city .
Sad place but good to remember.
Its worth a visit!
So emotional! Amazing sculpture with such a history...
Memories of the people who died for “The Nothing”
Too much prayer materials like stones , pebbles , fake fading flowers , ribbons and candles left behind. Should be maintained daily
Must see,so atmospheric
Unique piece of history
Very poignant , shame some idiots decide to attache padlocks and other rubbish to them without giving consideration to the story behind them
Impressive
you can feel very empathetic and emotional
Poignant holocaust memorial commemorating the thousands Jews that were shot dead into the river …
Breath taking if you know the story
..to honor the people who were killed by fascist..
Letagloz a latvany.
Very touch full...
Beautiful and touching .
Tuna nehri kıyısındaki ayakkabılar.
No words.........
Touching installation.
It’s impossible not to think about the 3,500 people that had to leave there shoes there before being thrown to the river , impossible not to think how those “shoes ” once belong to someone.
Gercekten insanin bogazi dugumleniyor. O insanlari anlamak, hatirlamak icin gorulmeli.
Never forget!
Değişik ve anlamlı bir anıt .
Muy bonito
Amazing view over the river & Pest. It is worth to climb the hill to enjoy this beautiful view. - Majed Alashari
Imre Nagy was killed in 1956, it may be considered that his ideas survived as after his death the softer goulash communism emerged. - Fluying ✅
Sculpture and castle may look awesome, but non-stop flood of tourists is very irritating. Come to the park early to avoid it. Also, currently there are construction works ongoing through entire park????
The most amazing building in Budapest. The visit is short but worth it for the low price. Buy the ticket in advance, they sell out. You won't miss much if you take the tour in another language. - Kyze
Stunning interior & gorgeous view from the rooftop! Definitely worth the token entrance fee of only 200 & 500 huf. The direct walk to chain bridge and across the Danube is perfect all round. Enjoy! ☺️ - Samantha
Perfect to see contemporary Hungary: demonstrating power, removed monuments, newly built monuments and palaces. If you know anything about Orbanism, you can literally see it here. - Filip
