Large zoo . Layout is a bit confusing even with a map. Be sure to plan before you walk so that you have a chance to see everything. Enclosures are nice and allow you to get up close to the animals.

HISTORY

This zoo opened in 1875 making it the second largest zoo in the USA. One unique thing about this zoo is that the Reptile House is the oldest existing Zoo building in the country , dating from 1875.

If you stay past 4 pm the crowds really thin out. Wear good shoes ! Keep souvenir cups for cheap refills next visit. Bring quarters and pennies for souvenir penny machines. Zoo shop has neat stuff!

Dana Parker

Loved this zoo ! It's huge, they have everything from condors to elephants, and the zoo is very walkable. The animals are up close, and there were a number you could pet . Great zoo , great day.
