Built 1829. A "grocery & grog" store from 1852 and a tavern from 1864. Named Healy 's in 1899 and alluded to in O.Henry's works. Renamed Pete's in 1932. Appears in numerous films and TV shows.
This former hotel in Gramercy Park opened as a bar in 1864 and was renamed Healy 's in 1899. In the early 20th century, O. Henry lived nearby and wrote about the bar in his story "The Lost Blend ."
Love visiting Pete's when in the area. Always a friendly Irish bartender to chat with & good food. Looking at the pictures of all the celebrities who have visited throughout the years is always fun.
Pete's is both an NYC institution & tradition claiming to be the oldest continuously operating bar in city . I come here for the "old New York" ambiance! Solid burgers , salads , and pub fare! Perfect!
O Henry was a regular at this Union Sq drinking hole. It opened in 1864, though drinking likely happened in the location before that, becoming Healy 's in 1899 & Pete's Tavern later on. - From Eater NY
Fun place, good price, great for the holidays Christmas lights and decoration everywhere recommended!!
O. Henry wrote “Gift of the Magi” in one of the black-lacquered booths , and the “Oldest Continuously Operating Bar & Restaurant in New York City ” serves a surprisingly fresh weekend brunch .

Great happy hour spot . Meatballs and old fashioneds.
Can't beat the ambience. Thrilled it is still around. Will be a go to in my new nabe. However, it kills me that the food is as bad as it is. Make a run for a top 10 burger...the place screams for it.
O. Henry was a regular at this bar and lived down the street at 55 Irving Place between 1903 to 1907. At the time, Pete's Tavern was called Healy 's. O. Henry mentions the bar in "The Lost Blend ."
Great for casual drinks, and light fare . Haven’t tried the burger yet but it looks amazing!!
A New York classic and all around great neighborhood spot . The Gramercy burger is particularly good (and all burgers are cooked to perfection).
This place is just fantastic. Excellent beers , great clientele and just a great New York vibe off the place. Pete ale is a great beer !
Nice bar and it's impressive they survived the prohibition !
Great atmosphere solid beer selection , excellent hamburgers and fries
The eggs Benedict and French toast are a delight here. Also, $11.95 for a brunch entrée plus coffee or tea is a great deal!
The history of this place is awesome but they should modernize their beer list
I had the mussel linguini in garlic and oil sauce paired with a glass of cabernet wine . The taste was perfect!
Yummy good and we loved having Edward as our server! Beautiful to visit during the holidays!
Super weird crowd at times but if you're hungry the zucchini fries have cheese in them and it's amazing
A classic that never gets old. Great for a group, a game or a date. A+ for ambience, brews and bar food.
The building itself dates back to 1829, though it was not operated as a bar until 1864. Its large signs claiming to be the oldest bar in the city have been greatly disputed by McSorley’s. Read more
Awesome history! Nice IPA !! Get the burgers , you will thank me later. You're welcome!
Very crowed. They have awesome egg nog with brandy . Also looks like a really cool place for group dinner .
Definitely try the "Lobster . Tail, Shrimp , Clam Seafood & Pasta " dish with white wine for the sauce. Once u try it u'll come back for more!
Not surprisingly, not only is Pete's one of the oldest bars in America, it has the notoriety for the highest number of alleged "bar babies" from adventurous to-be parents.

Grab a candlelit table outside at night.
Pete's Tavern great place to go. Fantastic beer , excelente food and great prices for NYC
NY Steak is very good especially with the garlic mash
Skip the rowdy business crowd and get a table in the back. The lasagna is amazing and enough for leftovers too :)
A classic old NY bar . Their eggnog at Christmas is killer. Burgers are good too.
I'm a skinny female and I ate the whole blue cheese burger by myself - the mayor is not a homo - haven't checked out the hand dryer in the mens rooom - will have to let you know. Will come back again
Well worth a visit over the holiday season - incredibly festive . Feels very classic.
pasta night on monday nights is an awesome value at one of nyc's oldest establishments (salad , heaping bowl of pasta and a glass of wine for under $12) - delicioso!
This is a mixed sports bar , you can watch game, enjoy food, and have a sip of nice wine
Great service from bartenders , very cool decor, generous drinks .

Evan it's a great bartender . Classy joint with an outdoor area .

The bar itself is considered the oldest physical bar ... During prohibition , Pete's doubled as a floral shop.
Neighborhood favorite. Low key crowd with above average juke box selection.
Stop in the bar on Sunday afternoons to see Devin. Great and hilarious bartender !
Cute , simple and down to earth. Just what you need
Experience one of the best Old New York bars by having a beer in the booth where O. Henry penned “Gift of the Magi”.
