Best views ever! Climb to the top and go around, you'll be rewarded with a view of the other mountain peaks topped with snow and a valley of forests . It's incredible and a great spot to meditate .
Hike to the Royal Arch is awesome and strenuous. 1600ft elevation gain! The one downside is that everyone and their mother were here on a Sunday around noon. I've never seen a park this packed!
The public parking area was a mess given the holiday. Come early on the weekends or holiday would be a tip. The trails are great and fairly well marked. Dog friendly as well .
Everyone likes Chautauqua in the summer but if you're looking for a quiet walk in the woods, be sure to hit the trails in the morning after a little snow. You cannot go wrong.
Nice trails to walk with great views of Boulder and Denver the higher you go. Nice date spot to watch the sun set.
For an easy walk do the Bluebell-Baird Trail . For a long walk take the Mesa Trail . For a more strenuous hike that will take 1 to 1.5 hours take the Royal Arch Trail . There are tons of options here.
Opening in 1898, the Chautauqua was opened as an adult education movement, bringing entertainment and culture to the whole community. Check out this C-SPAN video for more information. Read more
Start with a guided tour early with Boulder Walking Tours . Go to ranger station to pick a trail to hike . Later have lunch at tha Dining Hall . Then drive up to the top of Flagstaff Mt.
Great place to hike , with many options. A different experience each time. Parking is tough, but the trail doesn't get over-crowded in the morning.
Hardcore trail running or leisurely stroll, either are great at Chautauqua. Mara and James (from Uncommon Stock) have hiking meetings here all the time.
With a network of trails to suit every level of hiker, get up-close with the Flatirons (the slanting slabs of sandstone that are Boulder’s most recognizable landmark ) framed by a beautiful meadow.
Pick up water and snacks at the grocery store before heading over. Easy to moderate hikes available, but more crowded than NCAR, which is 10 minutes away.
This is one of my favorite parks in Colorado. The trails are so well maintained.
Great short hike . Park inside the park by a cabin . Watch for No Parking . signs, though.
An awesome place to relax and/or catch a concert in the evening!
Great for a hike . Fantastic mountain views !
Mobile phone audio tour ! Call 303-952-1600 Nine stops & four interpretive panels located throughout this National Historic Landmark . Fun
Hike or climb the flatirons ! Also pick up trash left on trails to keep them beautiful for the rest of the guests!
Be aware of bears and mountain lions, some might be hungry ;-)
Great place for hiking . Go for the top!
Great park and trails ! Just don't go on a weekend...place is a zoo
The ranger station has bathrooms but there will be lines . Also a vending machine for water and energy drinks.
You should be hiking here at least ones. But after that I would avoid this park . Way too crowded (on the weekends at least).
Did you know? The word “Chautauqua” is Iroquois for either “two moccasins tied together” or “jumping fish .” Read more
Beautiful photos of the mountain side!
Try ice cream at the general store
Too many people for it to be a good hike . Better hikes nearby up the canyon or on hwy36

Incredible hiking .
Great hikes for all
If your trying to climb the flatirons go mid week, and start early!
The beauty
Don't go here. People basically want to go more into themselves here. It sucks for me because I need to manipulate them to get free food and drugs. Try a restaurant or a music venue instead.

Plenty of parking. Ball fields. People play frisbee and do martial arts, run, walk dogs. It’s a wonderful flat space with access to Goat Trail and Mount Sanitas! - Matthew Ransom
Beautiful hiking spot with lots of different trails! I am a painted, and I will definitely be coming back with my easel in the future. - Candace Tupper
