Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is a monastery Santa Maria de Belém Lisbon located in Portugal.
Pç. do Império 1400-206 Lisbon Portugal
Impressive architectural ensemble. A must see attraction if you are in Lisbon for more than a day. The petrified visualization of 16th century Portuguese dreams of wealth and pride as a global power.
The Church is free & there's no queue. (and better than the Monestary) however if you want to go in, don't stand in the queue. Walk 200m to archaelogy museum & buy your ticket there. Saves an hour!
First things first: Closed on Monday! ???????? But an absolutely gorgeous sight that again shows so much detail and just look amazing! Stop by and enjoy the view ! ????????????
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is a beautiful 16th centuary monastery with breathtaking architecture . The main attraction is the Gothic chapel, in which some of Portugal’s historical figures are entombed.
A beautiful monastery with breathtaking architecture and a serenity despite its popularity. It is a Unesco site and in it's own way is as gorgeous as Notre Dame in Paris or St. Peter's in Rome......
Go to the museum next door for a slightly shorter queue (~20min?). The church is free but the cloisters are lovely. Doesn’t feel too busy despite the mega queue outside.
If there is a huge queue outside the monastery for a ticket, go to the archeology museum next door and walk straight through!
Beautiful architecture and really beautiful building. The entry to it is 10 euros though. So, if its in your budget I would totally recommend checking it out.
Absolute must see. Get the tickets online. The queue is often long but moves pretty fast since it’s just for checking the tickets.
Gorgeous but packed with crowds. It's also pretty quick, we did church and cloisters in under an hour.
admission ticket is only available for purchase at the ancient museum entrance vending machine; the time i bought the ticket they only accepted cash!
Don´t think twice before heading to Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, it´s a must visit museum in Lisbon. The architecture is gorgeous and a lot of important events happened there. Don´t go on a rainy day.
June 1985, Portugal signed the Treaty to join the 10 countries then in the ECC and the Euratom. 22 years later, all EU Member States would be back in the Monastery to sign the Lisbon Treaty. Read more
See the tomb of Portugal's greatest poet and one of her greatest explorers. Free admission , except for the cloisters . During church service: you can't walk around as much but the view is still great.
The most phenomenal building in Lisbon. Incredibly arching ceilings.
Really beautiful. Don't go to the big line of tourist to get your tickets. You can go to the museum and even buy the Belem tower tickets there. That way you skip all the lines .
Incredible architecture , you can spend a while here admiring the ceilings and stained glass
Really beautiful view and architecture ! But be aware of you are traveling with trolleys, there are no lifts or ramps to the up floor!
Built in the 16th century by Boytac and later Jerónimo de Ruão. It is a monument to Portuguese identity in the national style and housing tombs of great Portuguese like Vasco da Gama & Luís de Camões.
Just first Sunday of the month entrance is free. in the exhibition room (2nd floor) you can find a great history time line .
Lovely cloisters and a truly impressive cathedral accessed from the first floor of the cloisters - well worth €10
Lovely architecture , but the visit is hardly worth the one hour queue and the €10 ticket – the church , on the other hand, is free and also gorgeous.
It is a place that you must visit in Lisbon. The building itself is magnificent. There is also a beautiful park in front, and the Belém tower is in few minutes walking distance.
The monastery is beautiful. They don't allow you to sit on the benches in the cloister , even though everyone would be tired as hell from standing in the long line .
Impressive monestary, free entrance
Wander through the cloisters of the Mosterio dos Jeronimos (entry £5). The main attraction is the delicate Gothic chapel, in which some of Portugal’s greatest historical figures are entombed.
Beautiful! Especially when the sun shines it's a treat for the eye! Be sure to go early enough, it closes quite early in the summer!
If you don't go inside you'll leave empty. Please do yourself a favor and pay the visit, it's wonderful
Such a feast for the eyes. Amazing architecture
It’s free with Lisbon card, and It’s worth to visit.
The paid exhibition is well worth the entrance fee. 7€ per person, but if you're with a friend and it's before 4 p.m. then it's 10€ for the both of you!
Also known as Jerónimos Monastery , this Lisbon historical structure has the impressive Manueline architecture style. Pay attention to the amazing cloister decoration and the Chapel of St. Jerome.
1 hour queue at ticket office . Go next door to Archaeological museum to get tickets, zero queue!
Great visit! You must pay a fee but it is worth it. Don't miss

Its architecture is simply impressive. It's worth the wait on the entry line .
Queues were too long in the morning so we popped back after lunch and only queued for 5 mins. Free to enter and very impressive inside- have to pay to go into cloisters though
You have to go for the camera obscura, that's the highlight of the place. Peacocks everywhere!!
We only entered the church , and I personally like it because the medievalist interior still preserved
So beautiful inside. The wait is long even for ticket holders but only because they crowd control inside (which makes the wait worth it).
Amazing architecture , magic place, must visit, church and monastery
Beautiful late 16th century monastery , if you can't get in cloisters have a free look inside church with tall palm like supporting columns. Roof has armillary spheres & cross bosses. Look up!
We popped into the church for a free visit instead of visiting the cloister .
Outside is superb, inside nothing but the building itself.Church is free and worth visiting. If you go buy a combined ticket but elsewhere where the queue is smaller and skip the big queue here.
Emblematic building both outside and inside. A must visit in the area.
Wonderful architecture , it can take up an hour or more of your time just looking at the outside of the building.
It's extremely crowded on sundays, but everybody is singing then, which is awesome. So go on sundays during the afternoon!
Beautiful inside and outside, a visit to the temple and its superb surroundings is a must (mainly the Estufa Real Garden ). Read more
beautiful place both out side and inside.
The view and the Gardens were absolutely fantastic
