The North Gate of Taipei shows the history of Taiwan! The building at the left was built by the Japanese, the gate was built during the 1800's China Qing Dynasty, and the right side during KMT era.

Built in 1879, as the main entrance to the Dadaocheng area. Common people entered Taipei through the South gates, while officials used the North Gate. The inscription means "accepting imperial favor”.
