Awesome views from the summit. If going up the red trail seems a bit steep. DO NOT go down back to blue via the orange trail , especially with pets . It can be a bit challenging after an ankle injury
Take water and band aides always with you. The trail signs can be confusing in some places. Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots !! I cut my foot because of wearing flip-flops. Hike w/ friend-
Many memories over twenty years here- Hiking and rock climbing and taking in the view of the seasons- Learning to admire nature on high- Seasons are beautiful- DC and horizons are nice on a clear day
Just ten miles south of Frederick, Sugarloaf rises dramatically from the surrounding farmland of the Maryland piedmont. The 1,282 ft. mountain is a monadnock, which means, to reiterate, it stands alone
Study the trail map because there are a lot of opportunities to mix and match. For the brief ascent - orange sunrise is way cooler than the green trail .

Fun day hike just outside DC! Start on the orange trail from the east parking lot and get the steep part over early :-)
Great hike . Mostly shaded. Fair amount of climbing.
A great place to hike
Pay attention to the trail color markers or else you'll get lost
MD Civil War Trail : At different times, Union and Confederate signalmen atop the mountain watched the opposing army.
