the decoration and the waiters are friendly we order Garlic Edamame and Soft shell crab and miso soup and salmon belly roll and mixture of sushi’s rolls all was great and I highly recommend it
Helmed by a venerable sushi master (request a seat in owner Ota-san's section of the sushi bar ), the restaurant is unassuming, low-key and unquestionably authentic . [Eater 38 Member]
The best sushi in America (29 out of 30 in Zagat) in the most unassuming location. Fab service and the freshest, most buttery melt-in-mouth fish . Book ahead of time, and go often!
Incredible nigiri and sashimi . Good selection but excellent quality. A typical SoCal hole-in-wall strip mall hidden gem . The set menu “OTA-B” was a good sampler of both hot and cold.
Thrillist: locals agree is one of the best -if not the best- places to get sushi in SD. Preferred way to experience is opting for omakase at bar . Dinner reservations are strongly recommended.
Amazing sushi . By NYC standards, the omakase here is a bargain. The fish is super fresh. A 5 course omakase costs 2 of us $88! The same meal would've cost $400 easily in NYC.
The uni is as fresh and delicious as can be. Came back here a 2nd time, and they still exceeded my expectations. Everything from the udon , to the nigiri , to the rolls was fresh and flavorful.
Get the Ota A.. I promise you will not be discouraged. It is a little piece of heaven. Go hungry, leave happy :))) attached is a picture of the masterpiece
The sushi is really fresh here. Some of the rolls aren't rolled tight enough so be prepared for a few to fall apart . Delicious nonetheless.
I don't get to eat sushi very often, but when I do it is only from Sushi Ota. Having tried numerous places, there are many that are good, but only one that is GREAT!
Best sashimi in SD and the most authentic I've had in the US. Ask to sit at the counter - the sushi chefs are so friendly .I felt like I was back home in Japan!
Sashimi and Ota B all the way! Love Ota it is in my top 3 along with Katsuya and Nobu. Also check out Hane. Same owners or chefs as Ota...something like that.
I think it’s the best sushi I had in the U.S.A. The salmon sashimi was just out of this world
The highest quality I've had in San Diego. It's not all about covering everything in mayonnaise and filling rice with imitation crab . It's about the fish here.
Fresh sushi in San Diego . Their uni is local, and everything is well priced.
Business lunch with John and Damien. We ordered soft shell crab , rainbow jalapeño , spicy tuna , soft shell crab hand roll , and uni. Yummmmmmmy!!!
They were very educational on every dish they served us . The Freshest Fish I have ever had in a Sushi Restaurant . Great service and experience!
Hands down the best sashimi I have ever had. Uni is extremely fresh and delicious. O Toro is to die for and Salmon is just heavenly. Amazing!
The name is well earned in Japan too. Sashimi lovers must try the sea urchin and o toro . Caterpillar roll (unagi & crab meat ) topping with California avocado is satisfying.
Grab a reservation for lunch or dinner and order the black pepper scallop roll . Simply outstanding!
Superb ???? . My favorite is shell crab roll ???? and salmon sashimi
Arguably the best sushi in all of socal. At a place like this you don't do the ordering. Sit at the sushi bar and let the chef do the ordering for you! Not for the faint of heart: no cali rolls here!
Best sushi hands down. We tried the volcano roll and the spicy crunchy salmon ... amazing ????
Helmed by a venerable sushi master (request a seat in owner Ota-san's section of the sushi bar ), the restaurant is unassuming, low-key and unquestionably authentic .
Incredibly fresh sushi . The yellowtail belly sashimi and the salmon tempura crunch roll were both amazing.
High quality sushi , a little bit on the steep side. Great place for an intimate dinner with someone near and dear to you.
Gotta try the Yellowtail belly nigiri , awesome as everything else.
Must try the sweet shrimp . The nerves are still twitching but it is worth the show. They can bake it or put it in a soup after you are done.
Very authentic , more straightforward sushi . A bit expensive . It's a good sushi in SD. Sushi seems better in OC and LA than SD.
Most fresh sashimi ever had. Get the deluxe chirashi ! I recommend to make reservation or expect to eat at 9pm.
Otoro and salmon crunch roll . The green tea creme brulee is delicious. Amazing sushi .
Great, reasonably priced sushi ! Don’t miss the uni.
Get yellowtail nigiri Uni nigiri , o toro nigiri and a negitoro handroll .l
Amazing fresh sushi . Sushi combo A was a perfect portion and came with miso soup ????????
Very delicious seaweed salad , very basic sushi maki choices, tempura was a little soggy, but the sweet potato was the best
Make sure you make reservations for the sushi bar and get the omakase . The owner was our sushi chef and he was so friendly .
Deluxe chirashi is worth every penny!
Live Amaebi! Get it while in season!
Get the crunchy salmon roll and green salad ! To die for!
Everything is amazing, but don’t miss the Uni!
Best sashimi ever. Diego roll is amazing. Sashimi combo was the best fish I've ever eaten. Come early this place is packed! AMAZING!
Chefs choice. If you do anything else, you are not experiencing it correctly. You will thank me later.
The go to Sushi Bar in SD! Must get their specials & ever fresh uni!
NOT recently opened... been here for YEARS!!! Best quality in Dago. Tiny and hard to find, but open late and worth the $$
Sashimi platter chefs choice is the way to go.
Don't say "Ota Sashimi " at an airport , because it's the bomb!
If you come here you better do omakase at the sushi bar . Most authentic sushi in San Diego .
The Nigiri sampler was super fresh and high quality
Hole in the wall sushi thats really good
