Aztec Hotel is a bar Monrovia located in United States.
311 W Foothill Blvd Monrovia , CA 91016 United States
The Aztec Hotel was built in 1924 on Foothill Blvd, once Route 66, in Monrovia, CA. Designed by architect Robert-Stacy Judd in the Mayan Revival-style, it became a National Historic Landmark in 1978.
The architect named the building the Aztec because he believed that the public was more familiar with the Aztec tribe, than Mayan. This building did go on to inspire the Mayan Theater in downtown LA.
The original interior included Mayan mosaics , murals , and reliefs. The lobby furniture and electrical features were designed in this theme as well .
Renovations to preserve the original ornamentation and architecture began in 2000. The building has been closed since 2012.
