Der Friesenplatz ist ein Teil der Kölner Ringe. Er entstand, nachdem 1882 die mittelalterliche Stadtmauer mitsamt Friesentor geschleift worden war. Der Name geht zurück auf friesische Tuch- und Fischhändler, die im Früh- und Hochmittelalter einen hohen Anteil am Fernhandel mit Köln besaßen.
