If you're in Philly, be sure to stop here! It's a little pricey and the line can get long but well worth it. If you enjoy whipped cream , do not pass it up here! It's house-made and so delicious.
A must go if you’re in the area. Great decor and their ice cream is one of the best around. Tons of options to choose from; I highly recommend the Whirly Berley and Hydrox Cookie ice creams .
Amazing ice cream , lines that go down the street and cash only . The entire parlor represents and era long gone. A must in Philly.
One of the absolute must visit spots, this old school ice cream shop has great sundaes and inventive ice cream flavors . Try the Franklin Mint Sundae or one of the huge banana splits .
Caramelized banana ice cream is delicious on its own, but if you want pure bliss add some hot fudge and have yourself a party. No longer cash only - credit cards accepted!
Ice cream like u have never had before. Weekends the line to get an ice cream can be bigger than most clubs in center city . They had a menu right at the door which can help the process of u choosing!!
During the winter, you HAVE to get a hot milkshake . It is one of Philly’s best-kept dessert secrets and a totally different vibe than during tourist season.
Very expensive but delicious and very quaint! Can get 10% off your total if you have a receipt from Shane's Confectionary just a few doors down.
Best ice cream in philly. Must visit at least once to experience it. Picture is of peanut butter flavor . Also this place is cash only !!!!!
Old fashioned ice cream in a vintage building. The root beer floats are gigantic. A medium gets you 2 flavors. The chocolate peanut butter milkshake was excellent.
On summer nights, long lines ripple out the door into, but the wait is worth it for the house-made seasonal flavors like fresh peach , and honeycomb made with booty from the Fountain’s rooftop hives. Read more
great service! their ice cream was so good & I'd recommend their lemonade afterwards, I'm not sure if they make that themselves as well but it tasted homemade????
If the line is out the door and around the corner, know that it will probably take ~1.5 hours. Also, it kind of looses its charm when you realize it was established in 2004...
I had the rocky road and it was amazing!! Fresh and perfectly made!! Great ice cream !! Waffle cones were sturdy and didn't fall apart when the ice cream started to melt
So many choices! Great ice cream shop . Loved the hydrox cookie and mint chocolate chip . Cash only though, and it's a bit pricey .
They really do have the best ice cream ????????.. The line is very long but it worths the waiting .. Payment is by CASH only ????
I don’t know what kind of witchcraft went into making that hot fudge , but holy cow! A must try!
Enter a world of old-time charm with homemade ice cream , milkshakes , egg creams , phosphates and 25 flavors of old fashioned soda by the glass. The sundaes are truly exceptional and very shareable!
One of the best! Try salted caramel and hydrox (oreo ) cookie ! Too bad no dine in yet when i came (3/6/21)
Best Ice Cream I ever had in the U.S. Staff and Location reminded me how ice cream parlors may have looked in the 60s. The pic shows the Dr. Doveys Classic Banana Split
The ice cream and creations are worth the hype and nostalgia. It’s a great place to go. The lines in summer are crazy. But worth the wait.
I'm an ice cream lover and a small was the perfect size. Big portions . Expensive but worth the price for the old school ambiance. Cash only . Have a friend grab a seat as you order up front
Homemade ice cream , whipped cream and cones ! Everything is extremely authentic and sweet! Cash only !
Amazing. They know each flavor inside and out, and every one is spot on and natural. A delicious throwback. Can't miss.
It's the best ice cream I had so far, and I thought I already had the best ice cream while in Europe, the hydrox is the best
Step back in time and enjoy the best ice cream in Philly if not the country with great service. Worth wait every once in awhile.
Walk back in time to this Philly ice cream parlor . If you're really in the mood for ice cream try the Mt. Vesuvius sundae . It deserves a rating on the Trust Network: http://bit.ly/1fr5Mkp
If you love chocolate and peanut butter , I recommend going with someone and sharing two of the sundaes : the Mount Vesuvius and Stock Market Crunch. You will not regret it!
Franklin Mint Chip . Shop aims to exhibit "forgotten flavors of the American past": cherry vanilla , teaberry gum, green tea . Seasonal sorbets , sugar-free flavors and non-dairy ice creams . Read more
A step back in time... Ice cream is good but the setting is the real treat here. Very authentic ol' timely feel (except prices, of course). Staff also friendly and helpful.
Delicious handmade flavors—from chocolate and vanilla bean to Hydrox cookie and Teaberry gum—that make this purveyor of sundry sundaes so much more than an ode to the corner malt shop. Read more
Even if you've already had dessert , get it again from here. There are a ton of choices from just scoops of ice cream to scoops of ice cream with a brownie , coffee beans, and a pretzel stick .
Great place. Don't worry about the line it moves pretty quick. everything I have had is excellent.
Don't miss the Banana split , one of the best I've ever eaten, I would rather not to put whipped cream on it.
Get the Mt. Vesuvius – a scoop of chocolate , a scoop of vanilla , perfectly cut cubes of brownies and hot fudge , all topped off with whipped cream and a sprinkling of malt . Our blogger loved it!
If it's in season, try the 1904 Banana Split with Whirley Berley instead of the plain chocolate . It's the "upgraded" chocolate ;)
One of the best&old ice cream shop in Philly. Very very delicious. ????????????
The Franklin Fountain has original architectural details like an Art Nouveau–era soda fountain , plus amazing drinks like the Ladies Choice (raspberry soda infused with peach ice cream and sweet cream )
You don't have to go far in Old City for a blast from the past. If coming out of the subway, just walk towards Penn's Landing on the right side of the street to find this gem.
Go back in time at this Old City ice cream parlor , where the Berley brothers geek out about historic techniques and handlebar mustaches. Try one of the old-timey sundaes , like the Maple Leaf Rag.
Best ice cream I've ever had. Coconut and Maple Honeycomb were unbelievable.
The ice cream here is worth waiting for. Try the black raspberry , butter pecan and maple walnut . Three of my Franklin favorites.
The Franklin Fountain, dishes up in-house-made ice cream in an old-fashioned soda-fountain setting. The antique cash register pops up not with $ signs but with Franklin sayings. Read more
Touristy and subject to long lines , but honestly worth it. The ice cream sundaes and drinks are so unqiue and delicious!
Everything is just spot on. We loved the Homemade Hot Fudge & Stock Market Crunch Sundaes but we wanted all of the floats.
Adam Richman of Man v. Food was served up the Mt. Vesuvius sundae (vanilla and chocolate ice cream , brownie pieces, hot fudge , malt powder, and whipped cream ). Who do you think won?
This used to be my favorite shop, but upon revisit I don't think their ice cream can justify the long line anymore. Relatively uncreative flavor. And they only let you try 2 flavors max.
Yummy. Get the caramelized banana with cream and chocolate sauce. Divine!!
Had the banana split , get the full portion split between two people is divine! Skip lunch and get the banana split
The peanut butter chocolate vegan icecream is to die for!
Goat cheese and figs... Good. Green tea with mochi, real mochi inside...awesome! - Laura Aguirre
Get the Katydid or the Black and White ice cream sandwich. Their ice cream is money too! - Brian
A wonderful ice cream shop with rich and creamy flavors. Anything with chocolate is a must. - Justin Ordoveza
It's all about the experience here: from costumed shopkeepers to old-school machines and a hidden hot chocolate shop at the back, this place is hands-down my fave candy shop in the world. - Ashley Chan
Great place for jogging! Lots of stairs too for additional training. Come early morning for a beautiful view and to avoid crowds. - Myra Jurhee
Amazing ❤️ a must see & get there early for short line! - Gaudiness
