With a massive permanent collection, constant stream of exhibitions , dense library , and a myriad of public programs, the NYHS is invaluable to anyone interested in the history and culture of NYC.

This is a great museum . Cool range of exhibitions and talks. Also great cafe and restaurant . Plus the location is perfect for a true Manhattan experience.

Don't miss the movie in the theater that runs every half hour. It's a really good short history of the city .

This museum is a gem! Don't miss the series of Thomas Cole paintings , Course of an Empire, tucked away on the 4th fl. surprisingly tech savvy with interactive displays + a great 18 min movie about NY!

The more I see in NYC, the more I champion smaller museums . They tend to be more thoughtful & easier to navigate. The NYHS is a real hidden gem.Their ever changing exhibits are well-organized & unique

Little New Yorkers is a super cute program for 3-6 year olds with stories, singing, and activities (like crafts!). It's on Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:30pm in the DiMenna Children's History Museum .

So many fun artifacts and good information. Even with the main exhibit temporarily closed, the front hall and the movie alone are worth admission. The train exhibit is perfect for the holidays!

There's an 18 minute movie on the history of New York that plays every half-hour. Don't miss it. We watched it twice, once on the way in and then again on the way out.

Amazing museum great changing exhibits with a great focus. Usually touches on New York History with any of the subjects. .

A smaller museum , has some great exhibits housed in a beautiful building. Worth a visit. Lovely restaurant attached.

Audubon’s Aviary: Parts Unknown, until 5/26. "Most of the watercolors in Parts Unknown depict water birds, many of which are among Audubon’s most spectacular and largest birds."

The short film in the theater is wonderful. It's educational , emotional, and inspiring.

There is not a whole lot here, exhibit-wise, as the main collection is currently closed. The lectures though are great. Also there is a bar and restaurant which is open even when the museum is closed

In spring 2013, the Society will create an unprecedented display of all 474 original watercolors from John James Audubon 's "The Birds of America." For now, check out a rotating display of his work.

Best exhibit is 'A History of New York in 101 Objects'... A small room with small objects that tell you a big story.

Across the street from the American Museum of Natural History. I can spend an entire day at both museums .

On 11/9/11, I spoke at the grand re-opening of the New-York Historical Society Museum and Library following its three-year renovation.

The Armory Show was a treat. Duchamp Nude Descending Staircase pleasant surprise!

You can't say on your website that you have a Keith Haring exhibit and then only have three of his pieces.

Thomas Cole Course of Empire is amazing. My favorite, "The Consumption of Empire".

Dine at Caffe Storico for lunch , dinner or brunch on the weekends! Museum admission is not required.

Interesting exhibition about the history of the Armory Show

Totally disappointed by this museum . Half the galleries were closed. Most of the stuff doesn't even pertain to NYC. Can't visit the library . Hardly any prints on display. It's a toy train collection.
