Het Steen

The fortress served as a prison till 1823, then was briefly used as a residence, a sawmill and a fish warehouse . From 1862 till 2008, it housed the Antiquities Museum and the National Maritime Museum .

Dating back to the 13th century, Het Steen is Antwerp's oldest building. Legend has it that the giants Antigoon and Lange Wapper , whose statue is in front of Het Steen, used to live here.
