The Arboretum is a hidden gem on the shores of Lake Washington. Jointly managed by UW and the City of Seattle, its 230 acres are a dynamic assortment of plants found nowhere else.

With its lush green spaces, its breathtaking Japanese Garden and its abundance of rare trees , plants and flowers (more than 40,000 species), it is one of the brightest jewels in the Emerald City .
The Japanese garden is definitely with a visit. Big Koi, waterfalls and even select tea ceremonies make it a unique spot in the middle of the city .
Bring a friend, the dog, a camera and enjoy the verdant surrounding. Weekdays are definitely less crowded or just go early on weekend before 11!

We dare you to take a picture of the largest Japanese maple tree you can find, follow that up by dipping your hand in the spring at Marsh and Foster Islands .

Best way to experience this beautiful park is by renting a boat in UW Water Activities Center and rowing thru the peaceful waterways inside the Arboretum.
Come here at 6:00 p.m. and you'll hear the owls' hoot. If you are lucky you'll see them hunting.
