Quiet airport whatvis good. Spent the night on Gatwick. Almost all stores were open 24hrs .

When heading to passport control, aim for the desks on the left of you - the queues are usually shorter.
Try and fly from another airport ;-) - yes, it is that bad.
Avoid Ryan Air at all costs if you have a bag to check. One counter, stressed out staff , hundreds of people...
