Shirakawa-go

The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan 's UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Amazing village that appears frozen in time. I went in the summer, but would love to return when it's snowing. Definitely stop at the rest stop above the village for some pictures.

Best time to shoot the village from vantage will b at least an hour before sunset , lest the mountain covers the valley in shadow. Also do visit the river bed near entrance if you are into photography .

I love it when there are not so many tourists (around 16.00, tourists start to leave). If you spend a night here, do walk around a bit at night. There are million stars under the sky!

The name of the village means “The village of the white river ”. Very pretty place. If you are staying in Takayama take a Jhopptour buss with guided tour . It’s the same price as just a buss ticket.

This is a must visit place in Japan , gorgeous scene in abundance and please don't forget to hike up for a view of the entire village

Spend the night here and wake up early to walk the village before all the tourists invade it (around 10am)

Very interesting to see, but felt like a replica instead of the real thing. There’s no real life to it just gazillions of tourists taking selfies and buying the same stuff you can find anywhere.

Very beautiful and whimsical village surrounding by mountain . I think it's more beautiful to visit in winter than summer.

Magnifiques old houses. Fall is a Great season for Colors. Eat soba noodles and saké ice cream

Beautiful iconic japanese village . Worth visiting on half a day.

Go in the off-season. There were way too many tourists here in June. Sadly, many formerly traditional family homes have been converted into gift shops and restaurants in order to generate more money.

Just walk around this charming little town . The Gardens , flowers , houses is all like a storybook.

Book a bus at the bus terminal to get to shirakawago instead of using isite and u'll have much more time to explore.get on a bus inside shirakawago to go to the viewpoint for a panoramic view

We took a highway bus here from Nagoya, then another bus to Takayama and a 3rd one back. Great day trip!

Well preserved old houses dated back of 600 years of 40-50cm-thick-rooftop by UNESCO

Quaint little town that can be viewed in one street. Best time to go is winter when there are lesser tourists but much colder of course

Cute little village . 2 hours is totally enough though. ????⛩???? There are some places to eat and drink but nothing noticeable.

You can't see many village houses of this size nowadays in Japan and it's like hundreds years ago..

A good place have to visit don't miss it..

There is only one ATM in Shirakawa-go near the petrol station on the main strip and the ATM does not accept MasterCard. Wise to load up on cash before visiting the area.

Museum at entrance. Don't bother with smaller museums across the bridge .

just explore.. all of it in this village are beautiful.. ^.^

The souvenir shops' owners are unfriendly towards Chinese. Not that they know how to differentiate different countries ' Chinese. So don't get too offended ????
