If the tickets for Alcatraz are sold out you may be able to buy a combo tour for Alcatraz and Angle island . If you do, you can take the ferry from Alcatraz back to pier 33 and skip Angle island .

This place is gorgeous for the day with oysters by the pier or a bike ride around the island . Hike up to the peak to watch the sunset and you get a 360 view of the entire bay . Amazing!

Take the steep stairs after getting off the ferry and hike up to the top of Mount Livermore then take the Sunset trail down for more great views .

Bring layers because it gets hot and cold very quickly between the sun and shade. Only the 4:30pm ferry goes back to the Ferry Bldg. All others only go to Pier 41.
Only accessible by ferry - get the first ferry out from SF or be stuck in the crowd. Prioritize getting to the top, the view is unparalleled.

The tour is well worth it. They did a great job with the electronic tourist guides. Go early to avoid lines, buy tickets prior to departure day to avoid lines. - Angelos N
Don't miss the last boat or you'll be left on the island for the night. The island locals hunt those that are lost and without shelter. Seek the caves for protection and pray for daybreak. - Nate
