The Big Chair was owned by a furniture store called Curtis Brother's. BACK in the 60's & Early 70's there was this huge animated Santa Clause sitting in that chair every Christmas . It was Beautiful.
I am the Wife of Charles W. Curtis , the man who brought the Big Chair to Anacostia. Charles died on May 29th 2007 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery .
My Mom says the Big Chair was the landmark for a swanky furniture shop back in the 70's. I'm glad that it's preserved.
The deli however it’s closed today!!
