This two-story destination is split between an elegant dining room upstairs and a moody downstairs inspired by a Tokyo izakaya . We’re big fans of the barbecued eel with cucumber and avocado . Read more
As good as the sushi is here, chef Mark Hellyar’s prepared plates, including rich and bold sukiyaki , terrific robata-grill snacks and the signature Momotaro tartare are what will blow your mind. Read more

Best Japanese I’ve tried in Chicago. Have been a couple of times and it is always DELICIOUS. Don’t get tired of it. Atmosphere is great too, as well as drinks.
A great group/date spot for a dressy casual hip for the Japanese cuisine. The sushi/sashimi is beyond excellent. Make sure you get yellowtail , because it will literally melt in your mouth.
The gorgeous, expansive Japanese restaurant from the Boka Group serves nearly every style of Japanese food and drink one could imagine -- and does them all well . Read more
Must tries: Edamame , Momataro tartare , Beef waygu donburi , Momomaki roll, chili Hama roll. Next time I go back in 100% going to do omakase
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago, designed by Avroko, means it's a must to go olace. The food, the interior design , and the service are a combination of best dining experience.
Everything was deli but too small portions. Special mention to the cocktails , they were beyond great. I had a "Merchant from Kyoto" which I highly recommend.
Momotaro is one of the most amazing restaurants where I've gone. I felt I was in Japan. The atmosphere and service were great..and the food was awesome, so fresh and tasty. Everything there taste good
AMAZING food. It is definitely worth the price and making reservations in advance. This is probably my fav Japanese spot in Chicago. Food was outstanding, especially the ootoro which you MUST try.
Not inexpensive & can be quite the scene, but I can't deny the freshness & deliciousness of the good. Nigiri was great, but the extremely decadent Mentaiko Spaghetti was insane. WinstonWanders.com
Best sushi Ive ever had I don’t remember the names but they are all so good! This is a must if you’re looking for some sushi .
Try the chicken skewers and beef sliders . Tasty menu with varied options. Opulent decor. Disinterested, nonchalant service from hostesses to bar staff made meal just average and less enjoyable.
There was the tartare and there was the kumamoto beef to hotate! A dream! Everything was fantastic! A great selection of sake and Japanese whiskies .
At the West Loop Japanese restaurant , chase tuna sashimi with something peachy. The Wake Momo is made with rare, baby green peaches from Japan and served with almond crumble and sorbet .
The sushi is good but not wow. What is wow is the Momotaro tartare (restaurant named after it) and the beef wagyu donburi . Highlights of the night!
One of the best sushi spots on Chicago. They have a vegetarian menu that also accommodates a vegan or plant-based eater.

The tartare and bacon wrapped quail eggs were phenomenal. The sushi was among the best I've ever had. Can't wait to see them get their first Michelin star .
If you enjoy nigiri & sashimi , the $55 omakase is a must! Thoroughly impressed with everything I had and I will return.
This West Loop restaurant from The Boka Group specializes in unique and presentable Japanese cuisine. Try out the Momotaro Tartare ! Read more
Sushi and sashimi were really good, but I really appreciate them having such variety of other Japanese food . I highly recommend exploring their Yakitori dishes.
Amazing meal- sashimi , sushi rolls , skewers , chilled ramen . Ebi tempura was absolutely delicious
The tomato tartare is amazing, washugyu skewers are a must, the chirashi was great too
The skirt steak-shishito pepper skewers and the yuzu cake dessert were out of this world amazing. Monk's Journey cocktail was tasty and refreshing.
The skewers from the grill are delicious and actually reasonable price wise. If feeling decadent, the washugyu strip steak skewer is fantastic.
Solid sushi spot with great apps. The bacon and egg and beef skewers were awesome. Skip the octopus
Hard to go wrong here really, everything's incredible, but the Mentaiko spaghetti and the Hotaro Koi cocktail were a head above the rest.
Highly recommend the crab salad , short rib skewer & curry udon noodles . Sushi and tuna tartare were good but found the hot dishes to trump them.
Holy shit, the three-cut beef combo is absolutely insane. Everything is absolutely top notch. Go all out.
Everything was absolutely delicious! Best Japanese i’ve had in Chicago
Bacon and eggs skewers , wagu beef rice , chicken meatballs and green tea ice cream dessert are all awesome!
Everything is perfect. The momomaki and the shitake kushiage are sooo good.
Everything that we ordered were great. Chawabmushi was the best imo.
Stayed in the bar so the menu was restricted. Fish on Miso and noodles with pork belly are very good.
Fantastic food, a cool vibe and great service. Get the octopus , it’s perfectly cooked
Not ordering a tartare isn't an option -- pick the momotaro tartare , made with diced sweet tomato , Maui onion and shiso leaves, for a dish you won't find anywhere else. Read more
Chirasi don was phenomenal. I found the spaghetti with spicy roe to be a bit more nuanced than I had hoped for...
Exquisite. Chicken hearts and shiitake skewers . The cod !
The Washugu is melt in your mouth good. It was our favorite dish of the night.
1 in 20 roll. So good. Whenever Kanye is in town we order 10 each and swap Beyoncé stories over cold sake .
I really enjoyed the Rabu Kani and Aji Yukusuji
Brought out of town guests and they loved it! I had the monomaki roll. Delish!
The tomato tartare is excellent and not to be missed. Really. Also, everything else on their menu.
Best sushi I've had so far in chicago. Delicious drinks and excellent service.
I enjoyed the bar area downstairs better than the upstairs restaurant . The main area was not as lively , and I felt the food was overpriced for not being outstanding. Better sushi/overall space exists
Check out downstairs before or after your dinner . Cool Tokyo super-pub.
Fantastic food! Try the eel rice !
A great informal alternative to upstairs. The chicken karaage and the spaghetti were standouts. - Bobby Kennedy
Hiroshima style okonomiyaki is my favorite, everything is incredible though. One of my favorite places to bring guests - Garrett Jeffs
Cocktails are crazy amazing! Try the mushroom chips, so rare and wonderful! - Caro Cord
The pickled eggs and the pork terrine were both great. Good cocktails too! - Meghan LaMountain
