Waimea Canyon Lookout

If you're spending time at the North Shore, you'll need close to two hours to get here. Incredible views once you make it. The scenery change from one end of the island to the other is breathtaking!

The grand canyon of the Pacific can be best seen by helicopter. Absolutely epic and the only way to see the garden island .

If you stick around after sunset , the stargazing here is wonderful.

Awesome spot for pictures and cooling off since your at a much higher elevation . On your way down you might want to throw your car into low at times, otherwise you'll have some hot brakes.

Definitely get there early to avoid the fog. If for whatever reason the view is blurry, drive down the road and get the view from one of the viewpoints

Certainly worthwhile the drive. There can be lots of cloud but the views are amazing if you are prepared to hang about a bit at the lookout points

It's weird to see this big dry Canyon when the north is so green and fresh! Keep going to the Kalalau Lookout when you first drove this far!

Amazing views . If you're not on a bus tour make sure you go all the way to 2nd lookout for views of Niihau and the canyon trail

It seems boring, but wait to take photos at the "official" lookouts - they're incredible, and you can stop on the way back if there's a spot along the road that you really like

It's windy, make sure to bring a light sweater or jacket . The free roaming roosters are quite handsome.

Lot of options along the road , best was mile 9 marker where you have parking and a proper lookout place.

Look to the left of ramp for a small trail for an extra view - higher altitude and not crowded

Make sure to take 550 for the views . We accidentally came up the road where the open general store is at the bottom and the views are not great. I think it was the county road .

I put off seeing this place for years...that was a mistake it is worth the 10 mile drive up the mountain .

There's a local guy who sells bags of dried island fruits and toasted coconut and bottled water. Take advantage of the water...it's one of the only chances you have to get drinkable water in the area!

Bring sun glasses, keep your skin moisturize for great shot! Seriously don't let the wrinkles shows up. Cheers!

Bring a windbreaker even if its warm out. It's about 10-15 cooler here than at the coast'

Definitely go here! We're looking at a couple of goats climbing around on the cliffs. Wonderful!

Keep driving up to the Awa' Awapuhi trail for an amazing hike that rewards you with one of the best views you could ever see!

Go all the way to the end and hike the trail . The views are spectacular.

A must see! On the drive up look for a small river on the left hand side, climb the guard rail it's a good photo op.

Bring some cash for some fresh hawaiian treats. Be sure to try the fresh dried cocnut chips

You may want to take a light jacket with you, as it is often significantly cooler up there.

If you come across rain or fog try to wait it out for a clearing...it is totally worth it.
