This chapel of the Blessed Sacrament is named after Pope Sixtus V, and is not to be confused with the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican, named after Pope Sixtus IV. The architect Domenico Fontana designed the chapel, which contains the tombs of Sixtus V himself and of his early patron Pope Pius V.
Viale Vaticano 00120 Vatican Holy See (Vatican City State)
Beautiful. Extremely crowded . Get the skip the line passes to see the Musei Vaticano, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica . Take water with you as it is very humid inside with all the crowds.
Get the audio tour . Besides being super informative about the Vatican museums , it gives you a really good insight into Michelangelo's process in constructing the ceiling. Worth every euro and more.
Follow the tour groups through their exit to the right (at the end of the chapel) to jump the queue to St Peter’s Basilica . It’s like using the warp pipes in Super Mario Brothers.
Follow the guided tours to reach st perers basilica , dont take into account even sign says ‘only for guided tours’.. they cant notice you in this crowd. You will save lots of minutes with thishortcut
If you want to go to St Peter's Basilica after Sistine Chapel, follow the tour groups to the right. Don't exit from the left to go back to the entrance area of Vatican Museum .
Totally overcrowded but a must see. Book online and skip the line under: "https://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do" The way to the chapel leads through numerous further exhibition rooms.
A very unique experience. In last days of October, place was still crowded but I imagine a lot less than a summer period. Buy tickets from web to save time
It's beautiful but crowded , cannot relax at all as the guards and speakers keep screaming NO PHOTOS. Go to the right door after to enter St. Peter's thus skipping the line from the square
Live up to the hype I'd say. Worth all the extra time and energy spent just to reach this place from the museum main entrance. Take your time to admire the famous work of Michelangelo.
You'll have no reception on your phone inside the chapel (probably they've installed a jamming transmitter). So make sure to check in before or afterwards! ;-)
This place is amazing. Besides having to walk too much to get to the main point, it worths a lot. I suggest to buy online tickets otherwise you will face a huge line to get in.
Expect crowds. This year the Chapel wasn’t as overcrowded as I’ve experienced in the past. It had good air flow, too. Nice time to really view and soak it all in, especially after restoration. ♥️

Take a picture of the ceiling (flash off of course). A greedy corporation copyrighted the ceiling & won't allow photos purely for monetary reasons. So take a picture!
It can be very crowed but it is open late one night a week (until 10PM) in the summer, this is the best time to go, more manageable less crowded .
The most impressive sanctuary of art and genius. You have to see and admire this wonderful place. Please remember that taking pictures is strongly forbidden. Very crowded , especially during holidays..
Tour groups enter the Vatican Museum before the general public. It's a great way to view the Sistine Chapel before it gets crowded .
incredible artwork of michaelangelo , be sure to have audioguide, you have to stay there for a while, it will be very crowded and since its a holy place the guards will bark and shout to keep order.
To leave the chapel, head to the right door (which is only for tour groups) and try to tag along with a tour group. This will take you directly to Basilica di San Pietro without waiting in long lines
One of the world’s most renowned attractions and Rome’s most popular chapel. It has an incredible collection of paintings and is visited by millions of tourists each year. Read more
Every hours groups are available to go to museum . If you are group try to bargain with guides around, they can take you inside more easy. Minimum you have to spent all day for Vatican & early there
So beautiful! I can't believe Michelangelo never thought of himself as a painter but a sculpture ! His paintings are actual masterpieces! His sculpture comes through in his work. Recommended!!!
My eyes have been blessed to have seen the masterpieces that combine to form the Sistine Chapel. There's a reason they don't allow cameras as it truly is meant to be taken in with your own lenses.
The most famous sight of the Vatican Museum . The museum itself is large with lots of interesting artwork. The route for the Michelangelo painting takes about 45 minutes to follow.
Everybody says that you can take a picture in here. Liars! You'll see tons of tourist taking pictures even with flash. Try to be discrete, no flash and get better pics with ISO 400 and 800.
The build up between many works of Renaissance art in the 16 museums led to overload. It's amazing but crowded . An observed silence wasn't respected. People spoke all about, which detected from it.
(1/2) Beautiful frescos obviously but the quantity of people is not helping so much. Also to get here you need to follow the whole tour (which is about an hour long). So if you already saw St Peter's
The Cappella Sistina was built 1584-87 off the right transept by Fontana for Sixtus V Peretti. The main altar has 4 gilded bronze angels by Torregiani, holding up the ciborium, a model of the chapel.
Take the audio guide and sit on one of the side benches to enjoy every detail while everyone else walks through in a loud rush
Walk down narrow winding stairs to get to this famous space. Remember to be quiet in the chapel but if you forget, the speakers mounted in each corner of the room will remind you. In 10 languages...
Undoubtedly worth a visit! Beware the the big crowds...go lightly and imagine you are all alone. Whatever you do spring for the line skipping service! ????????????????
Must see. Make sure to buy your ticket to the Vatican Museums in advance! The ticket slots fill up quickly and are required to see the Sistine Chapel.
Grab a seat right away. Worth fighting for a seat. Also worth getting an audio guide from Rick Steves (on iphone) or some other source to fully absorb the importance of what you are looking at.
This is maybe the only reason you should visit the museum of Vatican. Take note that you cannot photograph the chapel.
The hall w/ M. Angelo painting on ceiling - it says no photos...but u can discreetly hold ur cam in a squat position in the crowd & shoot from ground level, guards won't be able to spot u :p
Amazing, breathtaking, you could spend hours looking at michelangelo's masterpiece
A must do when in Rome! Stay at least an hour and read definately an analysis of how or why Michelangelo made this miracle of art !
Save $ elsewhere and Take private tour with only 10 people. We were in chapel for almost 45 minutes alone. They turned on lights. I was able to lie down on bench and really see it all. Guide was best
Beautiful but soo sad you cant take a look because of mamy tourist .. you MUST GO AND MUSTNT STOP WALKING:D funny and sad in one
Super-crowded. The guards try to usher you along towards the exit, but with a bit of luck and ruthlessness, you can grab a seat and take a moment to admire this masterpiece.
A lot of people but the artwork is amazing. The structure is amazing but after viewing the artwork you become engulfed in it. You forget the people, the heat and concentrate on the gorgeous art .
Marvel at this artwork done by one man alone, sit on one of the benches on the side and just soak up the briliance of the frescos...no pictures allowed...
Renowned masterpieces from Michelangelo. Most famous being "Creation of Adam" and "The Last Judgement". Marvel at the most famous fresco in the world.
Considered as the most important stop of the Vatican Museum tour , taking pictures is not allowed, but give it a try!
Grab a seat right away. You'll need at least 15-20 min to observe the brilliance of Michelangelo's work, if not more.
Remember to cover shoulders. They do offer free shawls if you forget, but can't go in without one. You have to wade through a crowd of people as seems only one way to get there. Don't go on weekend.
Amazing paintings from Michael Angelo and very holy church . One can feel the holy air around. Very special visit.
I suggest to visit in the evenings, no crowed at all, and what bellissima evening you can have beside the master peace one best of human being can have been done.
Chapel is a must to see in Vatican even there is a huge line to get inside (as usual).
Very good number of paintings, not so crowded as main museum! Very nice ending of the tour - Julia Kryvomaz
Wonderful and immense collection of art. Must see if in Vatican - Polina Shevchenko
