On April 27, 1981, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm spoke at the GSU. Not only the first black woman elected to Congress, in 1972, she became the first major-party black candidate for US President.
On October 23, 1982, students swung out to the sounds of the Fat City Band at Octoberfest in the George Sherman Union.
