This is just the coolest bar to take visiting friends too. Just avoid it like the plague around happy hour . Any other time, great beer , food and a cool whiskey room

The Corcoran Group

If this place was George Washington 's favorite, then it's ok in our book ! While it's known for its whiskey selection , the extensive beer list is not to be ignored. We usually go for the beer flights .

@juliefogg Fogg

Chicken Pot Pie has been on the menu since George Washington ate here. It was the most savory dish I've enjoyed. Make sure you have 1.5 hours for this place. Hard to get in & out, fast.

amNewYork

Highlights include the Long Room, where George Washington gave his final speech to his officers . Bonus: the museum is connected to an excellent old-school tavern and restaurant .

JEB

Great people. Super cool place. Ice cold delicious beer !

Heather Callaway

The food and beer were delicious, and there was a great live band playing. Be sure to check out the museum upstairs ! As a history nerd, this place was a great experience.

Dan Sohayda

Old, dark, and brooding, but great bar with a lot of options. Separate beer and whiskey lists to pick from. Menu is rotating so if you see it online doesn't mean they'll have it. Ask the bartender

Erin Murphy

Really great authentic and old NYC bar . There are tons of tables and seating. Can get a little crowded at times. Definitely check it out! They have tons of beers including some they make themselves.

Ryan Eick

I'm a big history buff, so visiting a bar that's been around since the 1760s was pretty awesome. Didn't get a chance to try the beers , but they looked good, and the whiskey selection was great.

Sunaina

Love love love this place. There are so many hidden spots here. Love the decor and lighting. Perfect for a large group of friends.I can't wait to come back again. Foods great too.

Jonathan Brandon

Had the filet however they ran out of stones... Great anyway! Mushrooms and asparagus as sides and a Cabernet followed by Blantons bourbon ... This place is a bucket list destination!

Joslyn Wilson

We had such a fantastic time here! This is a wonderful spot to visit if you have even a passing interest in Revolutionary War history. Our visit was for a pre-Broadway performance meal.

Wayne Bennett

Great Fish n Chips , , Salmon Chowder and Chicken Pot pie . Tried a 2 oz shot of Knobs Creek limited Bourbon . I sat on toilet that George Washington used. History wow!

Marc

Esquire: A cozy tavern with surprisingly good food and a warm feeling in the older rooms. The whiskey bar up front is the snuggest place you can be on a winter night in Manhattan.

Patrick Baskin

Really cool decor and spot to grab a drink, quite big restaurant with plenty of comfy nooks to catch up with a friend, live music on some days is a nice touch

micilin odonaghue

On the tourist trail definitely but this is also a good local spot with a lot of nooks and crannies, a fireplace , solid food and a killer whiskey selection .

Jacobo Gómez

Amazing historic building from 1719. Inside is a maze of rooms with cozy bars , liv music and great beer selection .

Marc Schneeberger

Very abundant classic Irish food . There is a museum upstairs worth visiting. When you eat there you feel like traveling 300 years back in time.

Michael Natale

Grab a seat at the pub . There's tons of whiskeys and a great selection of beer . Try the famous chicken pot pie or the gouda mac and cheese with bacon .

Ariane

Great place for locals and tourists alike. Awesome beer , food, and allegedly George Washington himself gave his farewell speech here in 1783.

Hernán González

Excellent food!! The building doesn't look like much and might drive you off at first glance but just go along with the whole 'this is a historic building ' idea and enjoy the food.

Kate Connor

Love this place in the winter. Mold wine , old fashions, and a fireplace to keep you warm.

Loni French

Lots of separate rooms and bars make you feel like your in you're living room. Each room is different; some with couches and more comfortable chairs .

Tarek Pertew

Generally speaking, it's the atmosphere that sells me every time. Everything I'd love to have in a historic restaurant / pub .

Dalton Spear

Great beer , historic bar relating to George Washington . There are like 2 sides of this bar and also an attached restaurant

Spoon University

This bar was where George Washington said goodbye to his troops in 1783. Since then, five people have died here and guests cry haunted when they hear footsteps, keys rattling, or doors slamming. Read more

This bar is as classy as they come. They have a whiskey tasting room , a formal dining area, and a large assortment of beer . There's even a small museum upstairs !

Untapped Cities

This Revolutionary-era tavern was the site of George Washington 's farewell address to his army officers , a murder/suicide, and a bombing. Footsteps and unexplained noises have been reported here. Read more

Great food and service. We had the brunch pre-fix with the eggs Benedict and lobster toast with mimosas . I would totally recommend all.

Travis McFetridge

Great restaurant with incredible old world atmosphere and charm! Plus a historical museum where George Washington stepped down from the Continental Army after the Revolutionary War.

Landmarks Preservation Commission

Opened as the Queen’s Head Tavern by Samuel Fraunces, it was the site of Washington ’s farewell to his officers in 1783. It's one of the few notable 18th c. buildings in Manhattan. Landmarked 1965. Read more

Historical landmark , huge space , and great rotation taps. Great for all occasions

Sal

Super authentic tavern, with good food and live music ! I read that the chicken pot was the one Washington originally ordered! I didn't know, but you should try!

Siobhán

The beer menu looks long but be warned that it's more a list of what they could have with a lot of rotation. Just tell the waitress what kind of drink you want and you'll be told what's available.

Angelica

Beer straight from ireland, great crowd/bar tenders and live music sayurday ! Nothing better than that

sofie geo

Really nice historical building , cool interior and a super interesting selection of beers . Try the "porterhouse nitro red"

Kathryn D

Touristy , sure.. But still well worth it. Linger on a Sunday afternoon with live music and pretend George Washington is there too.

Brandon McGraw

A whole lot of beer gets poured at Fraunces Tavern, established in 1762, but it's also a gathering spot for several cocktail and whiskey clubs. - From Eater NY

Michael Adler

I've been here several times before and after the renovation. The history, the whiskey , the food is not bad either. Great if you want to host a party if about 100 people!

Elizabeth Burstein

Great group spot. Delicious linguine and sam smith cider . Yummy gaelic burgers too which is what brady and natasha had

Siobhán

Came on a Thursday evening with a large work group — the place was packed and service slow but we got our own table that kept growing and the food was incredible.

Brad Thies

It’s all about the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich . Top it off with a Viking cancan and it’s a perfect meal.

Nate Beatty

Large selection of beer and lots of seating. This place is huge. The bar on the east side of the building is the best spot

Ross Baltimore

Huge place, great selection of scotch and interesting cocktails . It's a bit crowded but go to the whiskey room if there's room

Carli D

Great food, a bit pricey . Excellent beer selection . Love the historic environment.

Alida Rose

Literally you feel like you are in another world and in another time. Nothing like some good beer and an ambiance that takes you on an adventure.

Steve LeVine

Nice selection of beer . Had the steak and eggs - the steak was good and tasty. The sunny side eggs were severely overcooked.

Bradley Anhouse

Absolutely delicious. Strip steak is one of the best I've had. Ask to replace the onions and get the spinach then mix it with the potatoes

Arthur Mitchell

Whisky room is cozy and has an excellent selection of whiskey from every corner of the globe.

Jeff M

Great restaurant , one of the coolest bars in NYC, and a separate whiskey bar for a nightcap. What's not to like?
