National Museum of Denmark

This is a huge museum . You can spend 3-4 hours easily. The Children’s Museum on the ground floor is great for kids.

Great exhibitions . They have a huge amount of artifacts and we spent a good 2 hrs walking through the museum . I recommend the Copenhagen Card , as admission is free.

The international section upstairs is amazing. The old display cases and just right lighting is something straight out of a Wes Anderson movie . You could spend hours looking through it all. ????

Exhibitions are extraordinary and the museum covers various time periods from danish history . Besides you can find the ancient times there but be prepared for a long tour over museum .

Could spend an entire day here - the most comprehensive museum in the city and a must for anyone interested in viking history or history in general.

As for the collection, it is outstanding, so please go. The pre-historic part has just been brought up to date and is of internatinal standard. For kids, visit Børnemuseet at the ground floor.

You will need to go there early, there are many things to see. 3 hours minimum! (at least for me, as I like to take my time reading everything).

Admission isn't free any longer. 75DKK for adults, free for under 18s.

First time visitors and tourists shouldn't miss the 'Danish Prehistory' exhibition and the 'Stories of Denmark 1660-2000' exhibtion. Begin your visit just to the left of the entrance hall.

There is a photo booth with clothes from 1700-1900 which you can use and create your own style :) . Booth is open till 4:30 pm . Exhibitions start to close at 4:45 pm from the bottom.

We had a great free English Tour that explained modern Danish life.

If you wish to know more about Denmark and its history, it's a must in Copenhagen, even if you don't like museums , you will like this one!

Danish history , not least the iron age and viking age sections - see the hall of runic stones!

We visited with two kids (2 & 4 yo) and had a good time. The children's wing is really nice and interactive. And: this museum is free!!

avoid, if the outside temperature is above 25 degrees. they lack air condition . the nationalmuseet is great though. many different stories are told and ages are shown.

Prepare for lots of walking... I'd recommend splitting your visit in two days, or even more, if you really want to see everything. Great place to spend your day!

Unfortunately the state museums , including this one, no longer have a free admission . It is free, though, to visit the museum shop and Restaurant/Café Julian.

It is a humungous & very well kept place. Free lockers are available on site.

The best museum I've been to! The way they display the historical facts is really intuitive and it makes you want to read everything!

The exhibits on display are very extensive. You'll need more than a day to go through everything the museum has to offer!

Very interesting. It's free and there's free Wi-Fi. Tons of unruly kids, people who can't understand you don't leave through doors marked EXIT and constant alarms drags it down a bit.

Hey've got The best prehistorical Danish museum section I've ever experienced. Medieval section rather old and decay, need improvements. They use Twitter and foursquare actively, though: really cool!

Interesting museum of history. There's so much to take in, it's impossible to do it all in one visit.

Tour (in English) of Stories of Denmark exhibition is great intro to country 's history. 50DKK at 11am on Tue, Thu & Sun from Jun to Sep.

The old ceremony hall (Festsalen) on the upper floor above the main entrance is great for conferences . Beautiful setting and good acoustics !

Great collections of historical items from ordinary life in Denmark

What a fantastic place to go with kids. We went with our 18 month son and he loved it!!

They are now charging for admission - 75 DKK for adult person, 18 and under still for free.

Don't expect a huge Viking exhibition , but learn real history of the pre-history through late Bronze Age people's around here instead on the ground floor.

for you dont have to pay, just walk in and out however your child likes. there is plenty to see also for little children.

The posh hotdogs from the cafe/kiosk in the main hall are really excellent.

Great changing exhibitions . Worth a visit.

The ancient history exhibit is exceptional.

If you've been in important museums (Paris, Rome, Madrid...), skip this one. Too expensive for what you get. Things throw in and lots of text to read. Zero interactive displays or audiovisuals.

Takes around an hour to see just one out of three floors so be prepared to spend there at least three hours.
