Main Carnegie Library opened in 1904. In 1965, the New Main Public Library opened on Eighth and Union. This library was designated as Ben West Library in 1977. On June 9, 2001 the new 300,000 sq. ft. Main Library building designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects opened to the public.

The most beautiful building (inside) in Nashville. Eat lunch in the courtyard . Stop buying magazines and use the periodicals room. The chairs are made for reading/study. Civil Rights room = powerful

Not only does this library make reading fun, they offer free lunchtime concerts , music petting zoo (thanks Nashville Symphony), art exhibitions , and Pulitzer Prize winner author talks.
Very nice library . The art exhibits change, so come back occasionally for different things.
Awesome spacious library , but hold your breath while you walk past the bathrooms ; they stink!
Storytime is fantastic and free, parking is free under 1 1/2 hrs, and they have a great courtyard to read in. Spend a day here!
PLEASE check out the Civil Rights exhibit upstairs, including the diner circle, large photographs and video room. Brilliant.
May be the only public art or cast doors to depict possums , catfish and a snake. Only in Tennessee. This artist is also responsible for Musica and the Athena statue at Nashville's Parthenon.
