This Barcelona bar is closing after 193 years! It's had some pretty famous customers in those years, though, with Dali, Picasso , Hemingway and Gaudí all regulars over the years!

1) place fork across top of glass. 2) place sugar cube(s) on tines of fork. 3) invert water bottle; squeeze to spray water thru pre-punched hole over sugar, dissolving it into absinthe . 4) who knows

Danica Vujosevic

Authentic bar . It's from 19th century and many things are like from that time. You can se the old bottles covered with dust :D the specialty of thus place is absinthe so be sure to try it out.

Libby Garrett

Bareclona’s famous absinthe bar has been open since 1820 and it is still just as popular today and a thriving place to go for a late night absinthe inspired cocktail .

Ben Engen

One of the prolific "Hemingway hangouts" around Europe. This place does have some real history behind it, though. Definitely worth getting their absinthe .

Pawel C

Very nice bar with enough space for big groups. Great interiors and friendly service . Very generous measures. Come even if you're not into absynth

Antònia Folguera

One of the best bars in the Raval neighborhood . This year is their 200th year aniversary. Absynthe , pastis, mojito , carajillo...

Redwan Mousline

Stop here at this 200 century old bar . They serve a delicious absynth that shake you up. A beautiful place with a lot of character.

Have a midnight absinthe at the dusky tavern that where Hemingway and Picasso first drank it in Barcelona 200 years ago. For more local tips, follow us on 4sq or check out www.renhotels.com

Fabio

Yes lets get drunk with Picaso, Gaudi n' Hemingway!!! If want to take it easy the sangria is fresh and great for this early fall

Martin Knox

Get absinthe obviously, and look out for the waiter who looks like Cuba Gooding Jr. / Denzel Washington.

Matheus Cardoso

An unknown 'must-see' in Barcelona! Historical place where Gaudi, Picasso and other famous artists used to drink absinth !

Vincent De Widt

Even without the absinth a very characteristic bar . Great for chatting with friends.

John Doherty

Tasty absinthe cocktails . We were there on an improv evening, so I hear the ambience is better on other nights.

Miloš

famous ancient bar , its in really bad shape but this gives it character, I guess it could be called a dive bar . But watch out, absinthe is evil!

James Jack

Amazing old fashioned - cheap and cool interior - old sweet shop

ConnecTheWorld

The oldest bar in Barcelona ! Must try the Burning Absinthe ! Read more

Pam Gilford

Order the absinthe (duh). Not for the impatient: for the experience, you need to manually make the water drip slowly onto the sugar. Also, watch out for your wallet outside the bar .

Antonio M ♠

Drink absinthe and feel like Ernest Hemingway in one of his early '900 novel !

Luca Gig Soffritti

Classic bar where Hemingway and gaudi used to drink absinth . Not the best services but have to go there before they close it!

Becky Clingenpeel

Don't forget to light your sugar on fire!!! Azucar con fuego!!!!

Peter B

Very cool. Don't expect service on tables, but the bartenders are nice and speak English well . Drinks aren't that expensive .Avoid if you don't loud noise and looking for an elegant location.

Kat

Nearly 200-year-old absinthe bar . Whether you like the drink or not, you've got to check this place out.

Ciaran McClintock

A must. Get the Absinthe .

Igor Piskizhev

Chloé Peltier

Bubble

This bar is open from 1820 (they have even kept the dust in place). Gaudí, Picasso and Hemingway used to go there to drink absinthe . It's a classic. Opens at night & it still serves absinthe .

Fabio

Sharming!! Great to meet people!

Gabriel Cardon

If you go for the Absinthe , stick to 2 max if you want to remember the rest of the night. Also watch out for organised groups of robbers when you get out. 1 meter limit.

Elisa Fa

Magic atmosphere

Nevermore

The oldest bar in Barcelona . Absinthe runs like a water here.

Maus

Yup, go here for the Absint. Not very well known, but it's a cool place!

Viktoriya Chuchumisheva

Old and spacious bat, but there was no music , which was a bit strange

Emma

Novelty of a “bar ” where they name drop Hemingway ????. This bar is so dingy that a huge ROACH fell on me. Dead.

César Rodríguez
