Homestyle Japanese cuisine sourced with seasonal ingredients from adjacent Nijiya Market . Their set menu at lunch (served 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday ) is a must. [Eater 38 Member]
Authentic and cozy . All dishes, appetizers , and desserts are delicious. Lunch set (entrées comes with rice , two side dishes, pickles , and miso soup ) is an awesome deal, albeit cash-only.
Once inside, we got the edamame (typical/basic), the udon shrimp tempura (excellent), and the Japanese BBQ beef patty entries (excellent - my first time having it). The food was very delicious.

One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego! Great value lunch specials and very authentic homey Japanese dishes .

Salmon rice bowl with salmon roe - amazing. They give big pieces of sashimi too. Good service . Long wait but worth it!
We loved the japanese pumpkin that came with our lunch specials . My son loved the stir fried udon , too. Everything was excellent!
The Sashimi here is so fresh and the slices are large. Eel rice bowl is awesome - ask for a side of chili oil !
The flavored rice with braised pork is delicious! One is big enough for 2 to share if you're also getting a couple other dishes.
Make a reservation ; I called at 6:30pm on a Friday night and was able to get a spot for two at 7:15pm. Try the Gobo Salad !
Very authentic Japanese teishoku place. I highly recommend.
This place is legit. Even the rice is packed with flavor. Definitely try their tapas and specials!
Great lunch set specials! Cash only though.
Offers arguably the best desserts of any Japanese restaurant . Get the pudding with black honey , you'll not regret it! Also, join the mailing list for specials.
Jason McLeod, chef of Craft & Commerce, eats here on his nights off. He loves the Cold steamed egg custard w/ shrimp & vegetable . Read more
Tax is included on the menu price. All the food is fresh, and the braised pork belly is incredible!
Make sure you take a trip to the bathroom . It's very zen like and a very cool toilet ! It is self-cleaning, warm seat, etc.
Ladies might just fall in <3 with their pomelo wine (yuzu shu). It's bittersweet and entirely refreshing! Makes plum wine seem boring.
Their sashimi cuts are damn fresh
Try the Salted Mackerel - Crisp skinned . Herbs pasted into coat. Salty without pucker. Miso daikons on side made me a better human. #Japanese #lunch #damnfantastic
Tuna Sashimi & Avocado Rice Bowl is unreal!
Liked the lunch set here! Rice , miso soup and three sides. Portion is small but pretty good deal
Real Japanese style izakaya . Be aware of the small portion though.
Omg best hidden jewel in SD!! Amazing! Small and intimate incredible food!! And inexpensive !
Great food but limited selection. Will be going back again sometime.
Intimate setting. Dishes are small portions. But everything is delicious!!
Small and intimate is euphemism for crowded and limited seating . Recommend reservations . Food good, portions small.

Good if you like small and light. Too bad for me I don't.

Disappointing!
Still one of my favorite izakayas. Try the miso sea bass and the aji sashimi - Joe Lin
Breakfast is great! Choose your own adventure with 1-2 options! I usually go with 3 min egg, curry, salmon. Try the natto, chopped okra as well! :) - Jerome Cartagena
A little expensive but food is worth it. I recommend getting the black sesame pudding! - Callie N
Cheap sushi, fresh veggies, complete and cheap japanese snacks and friendly staff! - Hershey Blanco
All pastries are fantastic. No frills on the interior, don't let that fool you. Strawberry shortcake and caramel mousse are amaze. - Matt Hiler
