Tennessee State Capitol is a capitol building Capitol Hill Area Nashville located in United States.
600 Charlotte Ave (at 7th Ave) Nashville , TN 37219 United States
One of several capital buildings that do not have a dome. You can do a guided tour at certain times or just walk around. The building sits on top of a hill which allows for nice views of downtown.
We didn’t go inside, but immaculate landscaping and I suggest reading a book on the hill looking to the north.
Only open a couple days a week. Enter from a tunnel entrance facing MLK Blvd. We went on a Monday and were literally the only visitors in the entire bldg. It helps that they weren’t in session also.
It's a nice walk uphill. The park is nice on a hit day. The war memorial at its back quite impressive too
Architect William Strickland died during the capitol’s construction and, per his final wish, was interred in its walls. President James K. Polk and his wife are also buried here. (From Aerial America) Read more
The tour is free, and if you don’t want to wait, you can do your own tour .
If its the weekend and the Capitol is closed, walk to the North and South ends of the building to see the tombs of the architect and building commissioner.
Excellent tour . Well trained and knowledgeable guides.
Tennessee State Capitol 21 minutes drive to the north of Dental Bliss Franklin
Go to the back for a great elevated view of the park !
Capitol is just great
Look at the cupola to see if the legislature is in session. When they are you will see three flags.
If you want a really in depth tour of the building, ask for Taylor.
